Ceremony audio

N, on January 9, 2020 at 2:21 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 8
So our DJ wants $350 just for the ceremony audio (mic, speaker). But he is not doing the ceremony music (we’re having instruments). So I’m trying to find cheaper options. Or ceremony is outdoors by the beach so I definitely think I’ll want something. Anyone had any luck with alternatives or ideas they can give me? I’m even trying to find my old karaoke machine 😅

How many hours do you have your DJ for? That's a pretty good price if you ask me. Any other alternatives just won't be the same as having a DJ, such as playing music off someone's phone over speakers.

Not sure what other options you have.

Maybe look at a music store to see if you can rent a microphone and speaker? Or maybe your officiant might have some ideas!

This would just be the mic/speaker for the officiant for the ceremony. The DJ for the reception is another separate cost.

Oh okay I see, sorry I read your post wrong! Our DJ is about half the price of the others in our area and he charges $100 for the ceremony alone (if you also book for reception, which we did), but that includes music and the mics/speakers. Other than renting mics and speakers yourself from a rental company, I can't think of anything else. The $350 might be worth the peace of mind knowing a professional is responsible for making sure the equipment is set up and works properly. Have you told your DJ that you would only need the mic/speakers and not ceremony music? Maybe they'd be willing to give a lower price for that if you've already booked him for the reception.

I'm following this because I want to know, too! We also were thinking of bringing a karaoke machine or my old trusty high school stereo system because it has a mic jack. If you don't need it for music then it's probably a good alternative to $350!! It should get loud enough.

I also thought about one of those Karaoke Mics. It has a speaker built in. Our event is outdoors, but it won't be noisy like at a beach so we might be able to get away with it. For you, though....?? Eh, I don't think so.

A couple of big speakers and a mic are all you need.

Try rentals ? There's companies and businesses that just rent a mic and speaker for cheaper than that.

I've seen officiants who provide mics but if you're going to be on the beach you may need a professional to troubleshoot and set up. I hear beach weddings can get tricky due to wind and sound issues

My photographer provides a wireless mic for my guy so we can be heard on viedo. Besides we’re both pretty loud. I think it depends on size of people attending and how close they will sit/stand.
