Ceremony at the banquet hall?

Diane, on January 16, 2018 at 8:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi there!

My date is 12/30 in Illinois. I originally wanted my ceremony to be at this beautiful greenhouse. It's open year round, gorgeous botanical garden, waterfall, the works. AWESOME for pictures. Also found my hall and got my quote today- 5 hour reception- food, open bar, everything for a FANTASTIC price.

Here's the kicker:
Last ceremony of the day is 3:30, reception across town at the hall would be at 6. I'm not gonna do that to my guests.

The coordinator at the hall told me I can have my ceremony in the same room as my reception for $70 cheaper than the greenhouse and tack on an hour to my rental. So, I'm giving up the greenhouse. I'm hoping for snow so I can have really pretty pictures. Otherwise, my pictures will be in the hall or outside against the brick building. Again, it's Illinois, so it could be 50° or below zero.

Honest thoughts on them being together in the same room? I saw pictures on their page and it looks like they can either set up chairs like a ceremony (but then my guests will awkwardly stand there while they break it down and set up for the reception), or they can set up the altar in the corner of the room and everyone sits at their table for the ceremony. It's going to be casual (no seating plan), but I just don't want it to be trashy.

My friend also had guests sit at the reception tables for the ceremony. As long as everyone can see it can totally work.

Could you buy extra time and have cocktail hour begin around 4:30 (or whatever time you expect guests to arrive from your ceremony)? Then you could still have your ceremony at the greenhouse.

Our room was flipped during cocktail hour. Guests were in another room. Went very smoothly. Find out from your venue if they can do this. Also how far are the gardens from the banquet hall? Perhaps it’s still possible to do some photos there during cocktail hour with your FS. That way you still have some pics.

I would just have guests sit at their reception table for the ceremony!

Oooh that's smart! I'm going to ask, thank you! They're only about 15 minutes away from each other.
