Ceremony at reception

Dana, on April 7, 2021 at 4:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3

Hi all! I need a little advice please. I am having my reception on May 28. My original date was May 8, 2020 however after postponing a few times, I wound up getting married in August at a church, micro-wedding. Now I am doing the reception but wanting to do a ceremony beforehand. Do I have my officiant do a renouncement of vows or renew vows? I really don't want to write my own vows and be so mushy gushy. Just wanted an idea of what other people are doing? Thanks!

I would just have the officiant stick to the usual script as some of your family and friends weren’t there to witness it the first time.

Vow renewals have no rules, so you can do whatever version of vows that you like. It's fine to pull a script off the internet instead of writing your own.

I'm a little confused by your choice of "renouncement of vows or renew vows" though. Renounce means to reject or announce that you aren't doing something. Do you mean that you think your officiant needs to tell people you aren't following your original vows and only following your new ones?

Hi Dana! You don't need to write your own vows, you can just repeat the vows you shared with each other on your wedding day! ❤️

You can talk to your officiant about it, but it should be pretty easy for them to tweak the ceremony to reframe is as you both recommitting yourselves to each other! 💕
