Ceremony and reception times?

Emily, on December 10, 2019 at 1:26 PM Posted in Planning 1 8
Hey all,

Was wondering how you guys planned what time your ceremony and reception would be?
We have the venue until 11pm. Any help would be appreciated!

The best way to start a timeline is by knowing what time you want the wedding to end and working backwards from there. Weddings are generally around 4-6 hours, so depending on how long you want your reception to be and if you want to end at 11, I would have your ceremony between 5 & 7. If you want the festivities to end sooner than that, just shift everything up however many hours. You'll also want to keep in mind meal times so your guests aren't hungry and grumpy!

We have our venue the entire day/night and decided to end the wedding at 8 (Sunday wedding), so we're having our ceremony at 3!

Our venue had a standard start time of 4:30 with the reception to follow. Our reception lasted until 10 then they cleaned up. It worked well for us. Not sure if 11 is when you have to clean up by or if it excludes clean up.

It was tricky for us. We are having a winter wedding, so it will get dark really early. We are not doing a first look so we wanted to make sure we had enough time for pictures after the ceremony. To do that, we are having our ceremony at 2pm and our cocktail hour won't be until 5:30pm.

    We’re having a late wedding: 7pm - 11:30pm!
Ceremony will be max. 30 min.
It depends on how long you want your wedding to be. It may be helpful to sit down and comeUp with a draft timeline. Also, are your guests the type who will dance the night away, or who will be ready to go once the set agenda is over?

Our ceremony is going to start at 3pm, and the reception will end at 9pm. We're going to do a "fake" getaway at 8pm so I know some of our guests will probably leave after that. Our wedding is 2 1/2 hours away from my hometown (in a different timezone), an hour & a half away from my current city, and 10 minutes away from FH's hometown. We wanted to end early enough for people to drive home if they didn't want to stay in a hotel.

Our ceremony is a 5:30pm. Reception at 6:00pm until 11:00. Our families are absolute partiers.

We had a Destiination wedding on the beach and we picked our ceremony time based on how many people would be on the beach and what time the sun would set for pictures. I think if you have pictures that you want outdoors and are not doing a first look you need to consider that when planning your timing and work everything back from there.

Our ceremony starts at 2:00pm, ends at 3:00pm, but we'll be taking photos at the church for 30 minutes. After that, we're taking photos at a different location. Our reception begins at 5:30 with cocktail hour and ends at 11:30pm. The time between our ceremony is 2 hours which gives us enough time for photos, travel time, and our guests to check-in at the hotel before the party starts.
