Centerpieces.. *pic attached* should i hire someone or do it myself

Sara, on January 6, 2018 at 4:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 13
I need some help. There is this florist/event designer who is charging $65-75 for the centerpiece in the picture (silk flower). Would it be better to do it myself or is that a normal price for something like that. Please let me know. Thanks!!

I'm doing my own, very similar, using all carnations and they are costing me about $30 each. The one you have pictures has some fancier/more expensive flowers, looks likes roses, rununculus, some mums. Plus the cost of labor, supplies and delivery. So the price the florist gave you might seem a little high, but it's in the right ballpark. Silk flowers are not always cheaper. But try one yourself. Get all the supplies from hobby lobby, Michaels, etc and make one. See how long it takes and how much it costs. Then multiply that by how many you'll need and figure if it's worth it to just hire the florist.

The price sounds about right. It would probably be cheaper to do it yourself. I will be doing my own. I love crafting so it will be fun plus it's a personal touch. Try doing one and practice it til it's perfect.

I agree, the price is right. Everytime I get a quote I have to have that discussion with myself.

Could you rent something like this instead? Seems silly to have this person make them for you and charge you so much, what are you going to do with them after?

Do you have a DOC who is going to run around on the day of the wedding making sure all of your DIY pieces are in order? You don’t want to be stressing about this leading up to the big day or on the day, hire out.

That's the right ballpark, especially for those flowers. If you are crafty, you can give it a go at doing it yourself, but remember that it may not have the same polished and professional look that it would have from a florist.

I'd DIY these I could make them for about $15- $20 each.
I like this video and she has many others. However, I wouldnt wrap it or use dollar tree flowers. The vase is gorgeous though and it can be made lower. Dollar tree has awesome finds.

We did all of ours. For 13 tables I spent about 150$. I got all the glass votives from walmart. Cost 30$. Bought flowers off Amazon. 8$ a bouquet but a bouquet covered 3 tables. I bought wood planks, wood hearts off alliexpress for about 30$. Got led lights, led candles and craft supplies from Amazon. Bought moss and wood sticks from Walmart. I can show you the vases we did. It was actually fun for FH and I to do these together. Once it all comes together it will be gorgeous I think.

I am all for dollar store deals but feel like she's got at least $50 worth of materials in her centerpiece... couple that with the time it would take and the florist sounds like a good deal to me!

Where are you located? I am on a budget so I went to the flower shops in downtown LA and was able to get it down to $25/$30 ea per centerpiece after some negotiating. See if there are flower marts in your city that sell by wholesale and they usually offer pieces similar like these and offer delivery for a small price.

Work the Joann's coupons too. Their mobile app always has something. They also tend to work at A.C. Moore if there is one of those near you.

You can definitely do that on your own. You can find EVERYTHING on the Internet these days! Even if you don't have any local craft stores, you can always have things shipped to you. eBay and Etsy are great places to start.
