Centerpiece Questions!

Hi All!

So our wedding is 10/31/21, and I've been doing a ton of research on centerpiece ideas. My question is.... how long do you wait before buying stuff for the centerpieces? Wouldn't you have to know how many people are coming so that you know how many tables you'll have and how many places need to be decorated? What if it's not enough time to have your items delivered?

We bought our centerpiece stuff in January (our date is Dec 2020). I just guessed on how many garlands, votives, etc we would need based on the size of the venue, table shape, and our guest list.

I made my diy centerpieces super early since I already had a venue and color scheme and had to leave them with my parents before I moved. I didn’t want to ship them from out of state. I guessed how many I needed and kept extra supplies in case I needed to make more. Turns out I had lots of declines so I had extra centerpieces that I used to decorate in other areas.

I’m wondering this, too! My plan is to have them planned out at least three months prior so that I can have a design meeting with the venue and set up a mock setting (although I won’t have all the rents items- but I’ll try to find something similar just to play around with).

I bought things here and there. I was always on the hunt for clearance or sales. My wedding was Feb. 22 and I bought a good amount of decor the summer before that. A lot of it was on the end of season clearance, so I definitely suggest going to stores around that time.
