Catholic wedding programs?

Sarah195, on July 11, 2016 at 8:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Are they really necessary? I know the ceremony is longer than most and there is a lot to it but do guests really need a program for it? I would like to save money if they aren't needed!

I'm having a Catholic ceremony and the majority of guests aren't Catholic so we are doing them just so people can follow along. I'm probably one of the rare people that really like getting a program at weddings. I think you can make them super inexpensive or skip them completely, most people won't miss them or care.

I'm having a Catholic ceremony (not a full mass) so it's not quite as lengthy, but I'm planning to do one for every other person. I think they could be skipped if you have a lot of guests that are accustomed to a Catholic ceremony, but if it's a large mix, it might be nice to have a few, definitely not 100% for everyone, though!

The only thing necessary is the couple, the license and the officiant Smiley smile

    So, no, not necessary.

I made very simple ones, enough for about half the guests. Many people remarked on how easy it was to follow the mass. We also put a brief tribute to our deceased parents and a thank you to the guests.

I bought the cardstock on Oriental Trading for 99 cents and used a Microsoft template.

If you think most of your guests won't need it, then you can most certainly skip them.

The large majority of my family members are Catholic however FH's family and friends are not. I never thought to provide programs for half the number of guests so I think we will consider that. Thank you!

I think they are a nice touch but if they are pricey skip them. I found ours at AC Moore during a sale I paid $9 for 150 of them, it included the link for the online template and I was able to print them at work.

We are doing them for our full Catholic mass. We have some required language that must be in the program (ceremony is tech free and explanation of who can participate in communion).

We're doing them for our full Catholic Mass as well, and most of our guests are Catholic/have been to Catholic schools. Definitely not necessary though. I just think it's nice to be able to follow along, and we will also list the celebrant, wedding party, and readers in it.

My church told me that programs are basically a necessity, since you want people to participate in the ceremony, and even Catholic people would like to know the music, etc. That being said, my church is REALLY into music, so they're making a bigger deal out of it that necessary. Personally, I think that they're nice to have, but you can even just print them on standard paper and fold them yourself (my church sent me a template for this as a cheap option).

We're having a full Catholic mass too and we're providing programs so it'll be easier for guests (Catholic and non-Catholic) to follow along and participate in the hymns if they want to. We created our own on MS Word and printed on card stock that we purchased from Staples.

We bought 2 packs of card stock for all our DIY paper products - place cards, table numbers, programs, and paper fans in case it's hot inside the church. We put our thank you messages on one side of the fan and a In Remembrance section on the other side.

I think programs are ideal when not all the guests are Catholic. It's also extremely helpful so that non-Catholics know what to do during Communion time, if it's a Mass, and when to sit and stand.

I don't know if yours is within a Mass or not, but this has links to program examples for both: http://catholicweddinghelp.com/wedding-planning/11-wedding-program.htm

Just make your own using Word, and download pretty fonts (for free) from dafont.com. We did that, bought linen paper from Staples, and had them printed at Staples for $11. Cheap!
