Catholic Priest gift

Cara, on January 13, 2019 at 11:50 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 6
We are having a Catholic wedding ceremony this summer and I was wondering if it’s customary to give the priest something as a thank you. We’re already making a donation to the church the ceremony will be at (our priest is retired so no longer has his own parish) and he is coming to the rehearsal dinner (he told us he doesn’t like going to the actual receptions!). Should we get him an additional gift? If so, what would be appropriate?

    We're gifting ours $100-150 cash.

I haven’t thought of that! We also are making a donation to the church, but I do not know about the priest personally. I am curious as to what other people are doing.

Cash donation? When it was my daughter’s baptismal it came from her Godfather who did it without asking. Not sure if your wedding sponsor would volunteer to put a bill in an envelope and give it to the priest.

Hey Cara! I've seen in the past couples gift their priests a cash gift! Unless you know him very well personally, then maybe you could get him something more personal to his interests!

We are giving our priest a customized wine bottle (he's a friend) and also a gift card to a steakhouse.

I know other people often give cash gifts

On a similar note, I recently came back from my brother's wedding in California and I bought some souvenirs. I bought a bracelet and a magnet for the priest who will be marrying us, is that okay? They weren't expensive at all. I would just like to know what is the protocol for that.
