Catholic priest fee for ceremony

Annie, on July 1, 2020 at 10:28 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Hello - this is more of a general question, but I’m having trouble getting a straight answer from others. Our wedding is next year at a Catholic Church in New Orleans and an old friend of mine (who is a Catholic priest) will be officiating. He’ll be driving in from a nearby city for the rehearsal and ceremony/mass. What is a traditional amount I can expect to pay him for the ceremony? He has also been helping us a bit with pre-Cana, but we’ll be using an online service for most of that I think. He’s a friend, but I don’t want to skimp on the amount. Anyone else in the same boat?

A traditional amount in the past that I can recall for a Priest is $200-$300. The last catholic wedding I attended my FH gave the priest $250 that was in the late 90s

My officiant for our 10/10 wedding is $300 but does not include the rehearsal dinner, only the ceremony.

My officiant wasn't a priest, but we paid $500 for him to attend our rehearsal and ceremony. He drove approximately 1.5 hours each way. We had our rehearsal the night before and he choose not to spend the night. He also didn't attend the rehearsal dinner or reception, but he was invited.

Our priest is actually my dad’s uncle! Our parish has it set up where part of our payment goes to the priest, and he gets $100. We will probably give him more because he is family. I would contact the parish and see what they usually do.
