Catholic Marriage Prep and PreMarital counseling

Love4life, on April 13, 2013 at 1:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiance and I have been dating for almost four years. We will be startingMarriage Prep soon. What are your thoughts on premarital Counseling and engaged encounter? More intense than Marriage Prep? Was it helpful? If so, how? Where did you have your premarital counseling? We are both devout Catholics.

Any insight or referrals are greatly appreciated! God bless your Wedding Day and Marriage!

There have been alot of recent conversations about this topic. I enjoyed our priest meetings. I feel closer to my FH. We had great conversations after each priest counseling. Topics discussed ranged from the ceremony, sacraments of marriage, and respect for each other...hope this helps.

We did Engaged Encounter last weekend. Loved it. The presenting couples were great, lots of good dialogue with FH. There wasn't anything we hadnt discussed, but it was nice to have all that time to focus on us. Highly recommend it.

I did pre cana recently. The couples who presented were nice and sometimes even funny. We didn't discuss anything new, but it was fun and much better than we expected it to be.

We were able to do pre-cana online! We live in Vegas but are getting married in Chicago. The Chicago diocese recently put together an online presentation for pre-cana, in which we had to watch a series of videos and do quizzes online. Overall it took us about 8 hours. We both learned a lot from the videos. Doing it online was very helpful for us as we didn't have to fly over to Chicago to attend pre-cana, our priest was really cool about it and encouraged us to try the online version since none of his other couples hadn't chosen this option yet. Overall it was helpful for both my fiance and I, we did a lot of discussing about anything and everything!

FI and I have done the whole thing---all we have left is to send in our documents.

We did a marriage prep weekend and it was lovely. I think WHO you do it with will make a big difference. Although I am not Catholic, I felt very welcomed and in touch with God. We got to talk about a lot of things that were extremely interesting--we'd talked about them before, most at length, but it was framed beautifully and in a way that was very constructive. Almost everything we did was beneficial for our relationship--we're a very open couple communication-wise, but it was nice to get to focus just on us and have it framed in an awesome way.

The only part that was hard was when our priest turned on some beautiful string music, told us to take each others' hands and stare deep into the eyes of our loved ones. "Imagine this is the last time you will ever see your loved one.." Everyone started tearing up. I've never seen FI cry before! Happy tears...
