Catholic Church Donation?

Ald712, on September 7, 2014 at 1:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hello, I am finding that the donation and professional "fee" catholic churches either ask for or not are extremely different. One forum I read that a donation of $250-500 to the priest is appropirate and other places I have read that a professional "fee" and donation to the church is anywhere from $****! HELP!

At our church it is $450, but other churches we contacted had fees twice that much.

Yes, every church is different. This is true for all faiths.

500 for the church, 100 for cantor, 150 for organist, 20 for two alter boys, and probably another 100 for donation to the priest/deacon. (actual numbers from my church)

Every church is different, and it's best to call yours to find out ALL the fees: church, minister, organist, etc.

It depends on the church, whether or not you are a parishioner, and other factors.

I'm guessing that your church doesn't list its own fees or "suggested donations"? They do seem to vary a lot. Buzz from my Catholic family and friends has suggested a few guidelines:

-If you are a parishoner who gives weekly, your donation to the church/priest can be small. If it's not your parish, consider giving more.

-If you are having a very expensive wedding, give more generously to match. If you don't have much money for the wedding, then don't worry about a small donation.

-Ask the priest how much to pay altar servers and musicians. My church doesn't tell you how much to pay the parish or priest, but they do have set prices for their servers and musicians. Even if they don't have an official amount, the priest or parish secretary should be able to clue you in on an appropriate range.

Hope that is a little helpful! I believe these are the kind of things the churches have in mind when they decide not to give official amounts for each donation/fee.

The suggested donation for my church is $250 but there is a separate fee for the priest since he's not the pastor there. Probably $25 per altar server and then I'm not using the musicians from there (I'm not a huge fan) so I can hire them separately.
