Catholic Ceremony--Prayers of the Faithful

Rachel, on June 29, 2010 at 5:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hey girls, I know not everyone is having a Catholic ceremony, but for those of you who are, are you writing your own prayers of the faithful or are you composing your own? I would like to compose my own and have three or four that I would like to use, I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions that might be different than the typical ones that we use in our parish.

Good idea Rachel, I hadn't put much thought into it. Come to think of it, I don't even know who decides on the weekly prayers - is it each parish or does a larger governing body decide on them?

My cousin is a Catholic priest and will be our officiant for the ceremony in the Philippines. For a wedding he did (for another cousin), he went with a few of the standard PoF. The other half consisted of prayers related to the wedding/family. I remember there being a prayer for the dearly departed who couldn't join us for the joyous occasion...

I think each parish chooses their own. I did some playing on the internet and found some ideas and I took some from the book our pastor gave us to pick readings from and either put them together or tweaked them a little.

I've been to some parishes where they give a time for people to call out their own intentions. Maybe a little more guidance than the generic "please include the intentions in your heart" or whatever would be good...something like "if you have prayers regarding marital relationships" or something. I always thought that was kinda cool, but it can turn very dramatic very quickly lol.

As for who picks them, there's a generic set, but often the parish has a book someplace that you can "sign up" and request that your intention be spoken aloud.

Oops hit send too soon. Maybe you can have a book like that at the entrance so people can write their prayers for you as a couple, then they can be read during this part of the ceremony.
