Catholic Brides with a fh baptized outside us

Laura, on May 1, 2019 at 10:53 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 8
Have you had trouble locating a baptismal record? It’s becoming nearly impossible to track down my FH’s baptismal record from Mexico and I am becoming discouraged. We need to present it to the church next month and we also need it for him to continue with his Eucharist.
Advice, encouragement or help please!!

Does he know the parish he was baptized in? Or even the diocese?

Was he baptized in the Catholic church, or is he converting? I know that for conversions, our church accepts any kind of evidence, not just the actual paper. Even photographs.

I would also talk to the church and see what their options are if you can't find the paper. Sometimes they also require someone to vouch for the person, maybe you could have 2 people vouch for him instead? They have to have a back up plan for this.

If you have already explained your situation to the church that's a Hassel for sure! If all else fails could he just get baptized again?

As others have said, if you know the diocese, town, and parish where he was baptized, that is about 85% of the work. If you have this info, do you have family IN México that can physically go to the parish or diocesan office to obtain a copy of the record? That would definitely help. I know it can be challenging - my fiancé was baptized in Venezuela, but even with the current horrific situation there and general lack of bureaucratic organization, we were able to get a signed, dated, and sealed copy without much trouble. (Actually, it was easier to get his than it was to get mine, and I was baptized in the US.) Also, phone calls using Skype calling credit would definitely be more effective than email. Just gotta get on the church secretary's good side, haha...

I would also talk directly to the church where y'all are getting married and ask if the diocese would accept any other proof including the Witness Affidavits, photos, etc... They do usually have some kind of backup plan but they don't want to use it if there's even the remote possibility of hunting it down. It seems impossible but unless the church records were destroyed or something, you should be able to find it! Good luck Smiley smile

I had the same problem!!! So what we did was have a priest at his church write a letter to the priest who is doing our wedding to say he is in good standing and things of that nature.. He also luckily had is confirmation and first communion certificate ( cause he did it in the States) and that helped out as well. I mean you do need it, but there are other ways to get around it. Smiley smile
