Catholic Brides and Grooms: Papal blessings

I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, even if you're Catholic but I learned about this on WW and sometimes use it for gifts for those who might appreciate it. I have done it for weddings, a shower gift, an 80th birthday and just ordered one for a baptism....

Emilyg, we're going at the end of June so do expect warm weather. I'm fine with it but I like to tease my FH that he's a delicate flower when it comes to heat. We're also looking into the tour that you mentioned. We've spoken with a travel agent and she gave us some great sites to look at for tours and such. That's definitely on our list.

I'll have to look into the nuptial blessing versus the papal blessings. That sounds more what we want to do. I've heard that couples that get in they recommend the bride wears her wedding dress. Yeah...not going to lug that thing internationally.

Thank you for this information! I just called my church and they said to call back a month before the wedding date because the Pope won't sign it or bless it if it is too far before the wedding in case the wedding doesn't take place. I am very excited about this so thank you!!

Audrey - I would definitely apply for the Scavi now. They only let in a dozen people at a time, a few times a day, and the tickets go really, really fast. They also privilege religious pilgrims and educational groups over tourists, so you're applying for an even smaller pool of tickets. And the heat is much, much worse than warm...especially when you consider there's no AC most places, as the electrical grid won't bear it.

To get the 'Sposi Novelli' special audience where you have more of a chance to interact personally with the pope, you do have to wear your wedding attire. Details (and papal audience tickets) here: https://www.pnac.org/visitorsoffice/audiences/#sposinovelli

Emilyg, this is so nice of you to give all this info!

We had considered getting married at St. Susanna in Rome or at the church my parents were married in Cassino. But alas, we stayed in Michigan.

Tina - how lovely! Don't regret your Michigan venue at all - If I had my pick of Roman churches it'd be S Maria in Trastevere - S. Susanna is too Baroque for my taste. And I wouldn't be able to stop giggling at getting married on the site of a rather naughty Roman baths....

Thank you so much for this, Tina! I saw this in one couple's house in Ireland (JPII did theirs - jealous!), but had completely forgotten about it.

    Hi!

Can anyone give more information that has actually done this? Can I send it in for us as a couple, or does the priest/parish have to send it in for us?

    Thank you!
