Cathedral Veil: Yay or Nay?

Priscilla, on November 30, 2019 at 7:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
So, I found my dress... Hooray! Now, it’s time to hunt down the perfect accessory. What are folks experiences with Cathedral veil? Is it worth it? Did it get in the way? Snagged? How did it work out at the reception? etc.

Just curious about folks experiences & the practicality of it all...
And for reference, I went with Casablanca!! She’sA beautiful gown.

My day isn't past yet, but I think a Cathedral veil is long and quite heavy. They can be gorgeous, but you'll probably take it off for the reception and after the main pictures. With your dress, I would say you can wear any length - it'll come down to what kind of personal preference you have.

I wore a cathedral veil. I loved it. It was a glimmer tulle with Swarovski crystals scattered throughout the veil. Sheer so you could see the back of my dress. I didn’t find it to be too heavy. It did tear though, I think it got stepped on by someone in my bridal party.

I would say no because of the train you have and the detail. Maybe fingertip length? Cathedral wouldn't be bad but i agree, may add to heaviness.

I have a chapel train and my dress has a lot of lace/beading detail; I'm planning on wearing a very simple cathedral-length veil with maybe just a border of beading/sparkle. I also plan on taking it off after the ceremony/pictures and swapping in some sort of glitzy hair accessory for the reception.

I personally like the idea of a cathedral-length veil with your dress as well, because I feel like it won't obscure the details or design. Sometimes the shorter veils hit at spots that distract from or hide elements of the dress.

I wore a cathedral veil and didn’t find it to be heavy. It did snag a few times on the cobble stone outside during photos and walking down the isle but our coordinator walked us through simply unsnagging it and moving on. Most people didn’t notice.

As for the reception, I took it of so I wouldn’t have to worry about it. We did all photos before the ceremony so it was heavily photographed and I could leave it off for the dancing.

I would suggest if you take the above of the cathedral veil just make sure it's one that's sheer so you can see the train like Gen's. Also take into account where the ceremony is so it didn't snag. My ceremony will be outside so I didn't want it to snag. I did fingertip and i think it's long enough to give the drama i want plus flow into my train.

My daughter didn't want to pay for something worn for all of 20 minutes so she bought a finger length crystal veil she can keep on for most of the reception.

Last year my friends daughter paid $550 for a cathedral length veil for only the church and as a guest, I can honestly say I don't even remember it.

Awwww thanks. It says fingertip but it is more like a waltz lol. I got it on Etsy from Alex Bridal but some ladies have raved about Blanca Veils. Either style you purchase you can always exchange. My first one was white and I felt the color did not match well with my champagne dress so I exchanged for an ivory veil and paid a little extra to go from elbow length with no issues. Post pics when you make a decision.

I wore a cathedral veil (my mother's) and had an outdoor ceremony - it didn't snag or get in the way at all. I did not wear it for the reception though - it went on just before going downstairs to line up for the aisle, and came off when my girls did my bustle. The pictures I got in it are pretty amazing.

Having said that, if it hadn't been my mother's, I probably wouldn't have spent the money on it - they are expensive for the amount of time I had it on.
