Catering

For those of you that drastically cut back your guest list (think 40ish people), did you have full service catering? Or are you picking up food and serving it? I would like to keep it formal and have the full plated meal but the caterer made me feel like it’s not worth how much they will charge for it due to minimums. We are able to spend more on catering since we have cut back elsewhere so I’m not concerned about price. Am I crazy for still wanting the formal dinner experience?

No I don’t think you are crazy for wanting that. It’s your wedding, if you have a certain vision I say go for it!

I don’t think you’re crazy. If you’re willing to pay, they shouldn’t judge. Besides, you can’t do a buffet with the restrictions, they would have to serve that anyways. Do what you want to do, regardless of how big your wedding is it should still be what you want.

You’re not crazy! Heck for my rehearsal dinner I was looking for a nicer dining experience and that was only like 20 people. My brother suggested buying bbq party trays but I just wanted to treat all my friends out to a nice meal for helping me out, there’s nothing wrong with wanting it to be a better experience !

I think you should be able to find a caterer for 40 people! We got some push back getting quotes for 7 people (we found many places had a 25-person minimum), but I think 40 would be worth their while.

We're having our dinner catered, but not staffed, and we're doing heavy appetizers in attractive individual containers instead of having a more traditional meal. But we're only having 15 people and we started planning this at a time when having a server didn't seem like a safe/reasonable option.
I think you should keep looking for a caterer who is willing to work with you to give you something that will make you happy, even if it's not your original plan. Someone who is trying to talk you out of what you want without offering alternatives is probably not the best person to do that.
