Catering

My fiancé and I are getting married in a modern looking barn and we are torn on what type of catering to get. I don’t necessarily want something super fancy but is BBQ too casual?

I’ve seen a lot of brides on here go the BBQ route. Although I wouldn’t suggest serving it at a lavish ballroom reception, I think it totally fits a rustic barn wedding!

It's affordable! We did soul food from a local restaurant and it was affordable and delicious! BBQ sounds good 👍

I agree with everyone- BBQ goes with your setting.

I think BBQ would work well — and there are so many options to “dress it up,” if you’re concerned about BBQ being too casual. For example, instead of the standard bone-in chicken and ribs, serving bbq chicken breast, pulled pork or brisket. And for sides, something like grilled potato wedges, corn casserole, pasta salad or grilled veggie skewers. You have so many options!

We are considering BBQ, too, also for a barn wedding! I think if you stay away from bone in meats like ribs or chicken thighs, it is definitely appropriate wedding food. I agree with Sharonda that chicken breasts, pulled pork, and brisket are much better options. For sides, just go for what y'all love! We like mac n cheese, collards, and baked beans, but you could definitely go for classier options if you want to take it up a notch! Also, having actual glassware, and real plates and cutlery will make it feel far fancier than disposable plates, forks, and cups, even when it is the same meal!

We’re doing BBQ for the rehearsal dinner and something a little more upscale for the wedding itself...mainly because I don’t want to spill BBQ sauce on my dress and I know it’ll happen because I know myself 🤣 my venue is kind of an upscale rustic modern barn-ish setting too and they have BBQ all the time at weddings there. If you love BBQ, I think it can be an awesome option, just ultimately up to you!!

I am doing a catering company that uses a really cool food trailer with a smoker on the back instead of setting up food prep tents and stuff. So we will be having bbq at our ranch wedding. I think it’s appropriate given the venue. Also do what foods you guys like as a couple!! If bbq is what you guys like then go for it.

I think that with a barn venue, BBQ style catering would definitely be appropriate!

Bbq is fine and easily be eaten with a fork. Make sure you have vegan/vegetarian options.

Do a Google search for bbq catering or bbq restaurants that offer corporate catering because those will be cheaper with more food and better tasting than a regular catering company that focuses on weddings.

    Love BBQ at weddings!
We are getting married in a barn and hired a Pizza food truck, maybe you can look into local food trucks? Some have really cute looking trucks!

Be careful with food trucks because they are not equipped to serve more a couple people at a time.

Yes so true! So thats why we went with a pizza food truck instead of something that took more time to garnish and plate on the truck, because they have it "buffet style" with 4 types of pizzas going at once, while they keep making more pizzas in their wood fire brick oven. And with Covid, we have to release table by table anyway so that gives them a buffer time so people don't line up. They do a lot of music festivals and weddings so they know how the line moves!

We are doing BBQ at our wedding; our venue is also a modern looking barn! Our caterer only offers acrylic plates and silver plasticware, which I'm a little bummed about, but I think it will be okay. Ours is a Christmas wedding, so we chose turkey breast with cranberry sauce, brisket, mashed potatoes, and green beans plus a dinner roll.

I would just make sure you have dietary restrictions covered. I'm allergic to soy which is present in a lot of sauces and bread, which is present in BBQ foods. As long as you know the dietary restrictions of your guests and none of them are allergic to wheat/gluten or soy, I would say definitely go for it!
