Hello!

is serving fish too risky? It would be a duo plate that includes beef tenderloin and salmon. I don’t want people to only eat the beef if I’m paying for the duo plate. Thoughts?

It will probably work out. I'm sure someone is allergic to salmon but when it comes to fish, it's usually shell fish that presents the most allergies. Most people seem to like or at least not mind salmon. I don't think it would a waste necessarily.

I'll voice in as the non-fish eater...I wouldn't like having both on my plate. I know it would go uneaten on my plate for sure. I guess it's up to you but we are having options for our guests, that why nothing goes wasted both food and money wise.

I think offering fish as an option is a good idea, but if you are doing plated meals like it sounds like you are then on your RSVP card you give people the choice between beef and fish then you aren't wasting money on anything. I don't think having fish and beef for each person is necessary because then will go to waste.

I think only do one protien per person and ask for it on the rsvp card
Also you should ask for allergies on the rsvp card because people who are allergic to fish (like myself) can't have their meal touch anything with fish on it. Your caterer will need to know if they need to make allergen safe plates for you guests.

Not sure why it would be risky ?
We had fish and beef as our two protein options. Everyone was happy and people seemed to choose to eat a good mix of both. Ours were separate though. I think duo plates are always risky if you’re worried about food waste/paying for food that’s not getting eaten. With no choice and just getting 2 proteins on one plate, lots of people will choose to only eat one of them. Some will eat both, some will eat only beef, some will eat only fish. Getting both instead of choosing their preference is where the risk of plates not being cleared comes in, so if that’s your concern , I’d offer everyone a choice between the 2. There’s plenty of people who don’t eat red meat and would prefer fish. (Note: I don’t actually think there’s anything wrong with doing a duo plate, except as it relates to this specific concern. In general I think they’re a fine option, and beef and fish are perfectly suitable protein options)

If you don't want people only eating the beef on the duo plate I would personally skip the due plate idea and let people pick between proteins. I personally wouldn't eat salmon, so it wouldn't be eaten on my plate. I like some seafood but I'm not a fan of salmon personally. That's the risk you run by having a duo plate, especially when one of the proteins is seafood.

Think about if any of your guests are allergic to fish! I am so allergic that I cannot even be around fish (yes, all fish not just shellfish) without getting a reaction

I would personally only eat the beef as I hate the taste and smell of seafood. Maybe have multiple options as separate entrees to reduce waste. We are having beef, chicken and fish options.

The salmon would go uneaten by most of my family. And some people don’t eat red meat. Will they be able to order the tenderloin as they want it? People are picky about that too, my husband wants his practically bleeding and my mom prefers hers to be almost leather.
If you’re worried about waste, I would give people a meal option on the RSVP.

Have you tasted the food? Do you like it? I'd for sure eat pretty much any kind of fish at a wedding as long as it wasn't weirdly fishy or gross (which I assume it wouldn't be). Could you do a plated meal instead, and have each guest send in their choice between beef and fish? It also depends on your crowd. I'm from San Diego, my fiance is from Denver. Pretty much all my family & friends eat seafood all the time, but way less of his family & friends do.

Someone else just asked about duo plates and I think they are a large waste of food. I know many people especially who just dislike fish so they wouldn't eat both nor want it on their plate. I don't think it's wise to have this pairing, let alone waste the money on the pairing most people will unfortunately waste Smiley atonished

Not a fan of a duo plate. I would give them the option of one or the other.

I am having the same dilemma so I just wanted to read the responses 😊 Our venue’s meal option only comes as a plated duo so I’ve been struggling as to which two proteins to select. I personally like fish, but I know a few guests who hate seafood and definitely won’t want it on their plates. I’m thinking of asking the venue if I would be able to have guests make a selection instead of having to have the entree duo (although I’m sure we would still be paying for it 🙄). Our other options are buffet and family style - both of which I really don’t want to do.
I’ll be following to see what you decided on!!!

Hey there! I opted out of the duo plate. We’re giving our guest an option between chicken beef or vegetarian option. I think this will work out better. Let me know what you decide! 💕
