Catering

Katie, on March 4, 2020 at 7:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
We are meeting with a catering company we might use for our wedding on Saturday. I want to write down some questions to ask and was wondering if anyone knew of any good questions to ask the catering company?

-What is included? Linens, dinnerware, glassware, etc.
-Do they charge a service fee? If yes, is gratuity included?
-What services do they offer? Bar? Servers at the buffet or for the tables? How many servers are included? -How much customizing do they allow on the menus? -How do they handle dietary restrictions or allergies? -Do they handle set up and clean up? -Are apps or desserts included or can they be purchased through them/provided by someone else?

Everything said above plus, when is the final headcount for the wedding due. my venue is 10 days before but I've read other places are much earlier than that even 30 days out. and is any outside food allowed to be brought in, such as desserts or cake

Ask about expectations regarding tipping (for most companies service fee is not the tip). Make sure you understand how they price (per person vs. per piece for appetizers, per serving for entree, etc.) and exactly what that includes. Make sure you understand how their minimums and/or F&B guarantees work. If it's per person and your guest count is lower than the guarantee can you apply the extra payment to food upgrades? There are so many variations (some caterers just provide food/beverage, others include all the plates, flatware, linens, even furniture). Be sure you understand EXACTLY what each includes, how many hours of service are included, how early they need to access the venue, how much of clean-up they are responsible for, etc. If you're meeting with multiple caterers (hopefully!) consider setting up a spreadsheet that lists EVERY possible thing you'll need to have provided, then as you meet with different vendors you can check off each thing that is included in their price. Some vendors will quote a lower price, but when you do the full comparison for everything you'll want/need, you may end up paying more by the time they nickel and dime you for every little add-on or when you have to work with a different vendor to provide items. Also, ask about delivery and pick-up charges, if any. The list goes on and on. If you haven't yet, Google "questions to ask a wedding caterer" and you should find more thorough lists you can base your questions off of. Good luck!
