Catering Stations - Too Little?

Kaia, on August 17, 2020 at 7:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
FH and I are going for a very casual format to our reception with a catering menu based in comfort food. We are currently trying to lock down a caterer and have been considering doing stations as the format to keep it casual throughout the night, as we don't want a formal set meal. We are also trying to keep our catering costs within a reasonable price range as we are paying for everything ourselves. All that being said, we are currently considering a menu from a company that includes 3 appetizer options, a sliders bar with 2 protein options, a loaded fry bar which includes 2 types of chili among other toppings, and a salad bar. My question is... does that seem like enough food for a dinner time reception? Should we consider adding another station? Or swapping out the salad bar for something more? Like I said, we are trying to keep the cost minimal but I also don't want anyone starving and wanting to leave early just because we didn't provide enough food.

I would consider adding something more to it

    This seems sufficient to me.

Just playing this out.... my thoughts would be:

3 appetizers - (you could do) crudités, cheese and cracker station, fresh fruit and chocolate dipping (adding fruit gives something sweet)
Salad bar - maybe add some proteins to this

    Sliders - chicken and beef?
What is a loaded “fry” bar - like French fries or other fried proteins?
    2 chili’s - loaded toppings
I agree with the previous post, I would maybe add another station or consider changing to 1 chili and swapping for a baked ziti - very cost effective option
I definitely think you need another main protein option - if you do baked ziti or spaghetti you could add meatballs on the side

I would probably add one more option. Maybe a pasta or stir fry station.

What is included in the fry bar? That could work for a late night snack too.
You could easily add another station such as stir fry or tacos. What does your caterer offer that will appeal to your guests?

I think that sounds great. Definitely keep the salad bar - it’ll be a good break from the fried food.

A loaded fry bar is a bar where you get french fries and can top them with things such as the 2 types of chili she mentions, cheese, sour cream, bacon probably, etc.

Are you doing a dessert bar too? I think that is plenty of food for dinner.

Thanks! Common Sense told that's what it was... but.... Smiley winking

So, I would definitely recommend another main protein of sorts.

Maybe add some proteins to the salad bar and you're good!

Sounds like a good spread. Keep the salad bar or make sure there is something available for any vegans that they are made aware of.
