Catering Questions

Lyndsay, on August 27, 2019 at 1:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

My venue has a preferred caterer list, among other vendors. If we opt to go with a caterer not on that list my venue asks that we use their waitstaff. Is this something that will be an issue for caterers? I know I would personally not like to make a wonderful meal and then hand it over to waitstaff I don't know to plate it and serve it.

The thing is, the catering cost is cut down greatly by using the venue's staff. So I certainly don't mind that aspect I am just worried that the caterers I like will not be all too happy to pass their food on to someone else's staff to handle. Has anyone run into this issue?

Unless they require you use their waitstaff, I don't see why they would care. The best way to find out is to ask any caterers of interest directly. However, since your venue requires you use their waitstaff, if they want your business, they gotta comply.

I think it's ok to use venue wait staff since they're just serving the food

I think it just depends on the caterer, I would definitely ask them before booking if the waitstaff would pose an issue. Some caterers include their own waitstaff in the price they give you.

I've never heard of something like this before. If you've booked a venue that's frequently used, I would imagine many caterers have worked with that venue before and won't have a problem with it.
