8 days until my wedding and my catering conundrum has reached a resolution! My FH pointed out that he’d feel embarrassed for spending so much money on catering because it’s not how his family does things. And then I realized our wedding contains none of my family except my parents and just a couple of my friends so irrelevant to how I feel, (6 peeps of mine to his 20) we are catering to his family and that’s what matters and I don’t want to make them uncomfortable.
So I’m going to email our original caterer and cancel everything - he still hasn’t sent me quotes for added hours or deposit information or updated invoice so maybe it’s for the best. We opted to order (and did) order some local BBQ that’ll be dropped off. I checked with our rentals companies and since no ice chests are available and chafing dishes are too expensive. It’ll be coming as is hopefully on time and if it gets cold .. we will have to deal. I convinced FH that asking guests to bartend was out of the question. He agreed to my one term, and we’ll pick up some drinks and borrow an ice chest or two and fill containers with pre mixed beverages and guests will self serve. For apps, I guess trays of Costco veggies and chips will suffice and ice cream cones or something.
He’s happier, much happier which is better for everyone at the end of the day. But now I get to scramble with this new DIY catering plan and still have a conversation with the original caterer. I’ll have skip morning with my girls wedding day of to set everything up because it’s not in my contract for the DOC around also do a catering spread. Oh and find time somewhere to pick up food, make it look halfway presentable.
This is has been a nightmare and I thank all you kind ladies for allowing me to vent my frustrations and provide me with advice which I’ve been using to find solutions. And hey... now we get to plan a honeymoon sooner because he’s more relieved we aren’t wasting unnecessary money on catering for only 30 people who won’t care.
