Catering or Small Refreshments?!?!?!

Dylasia, on September 9, 2019 at 9:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17
I want to use a catering company for our reception but my husband to be says refreshments should be fine lol we’re both very frugal with our money lol! What is more appropriate? Especially for 150-200 guest? The party is going to be about 4 hours long. All answers are respected and considered ❤️❤️

If it’s over a meal time you definitely need to serve a full meal. If it’s not over a meal time you can get away with drinks and appetizers.

Then yes you will definitely need to provide a meal. BBQ, Mexican, and Italian restaurants tend to have the cheapest catering.

If it is from 5-9 you definitely need to provide dinner. When I hear refreshments, I think like cake and punch, which is fine if it is during a non meal time. If you don't provide dinner, I'd expect some hangry guests and people leaving. I'd be frustrated (to be putting it nicely) if there was a large gap between the ceremony and reception and then I wasn't even being fed dinner. I'm not saying this to be harsh, but to be honest.

5 pm is a meal time and a meal should be provided. Otherwise your guests are going to leave early to eat dinner.

5-9pm is definitely a mealtime and you need to provide a full meal. If you had the reception immediately following your ceremony, finishing about 5-5:30pm, then refreshments would be fine.

You should definitely serve a meal. If you don’t people will dip out around 6:00 to eat dinner.
They’ll also never forget that they weren’t provided with a meal.

Unless you have the reception in the afternoon, you need to do a full meal or your reception crowd will dwindle

You'd need a meal or really heavy appetizers that can sub for a meal

If your reception starts at 5pm, around 7 guests will get hungry. You can serve a simple bbq meal to help cut cost

BBQ sounds great! They might not provide those things but you can always rent them or even buy them and resell. I bought my linens from Tableclothfactory.com for about $5 each. I just went with nicer looking plastic plates and such for the tables but you can rent plates for like 50 cents a person. It’s tasty BBQ, people don’t expect fine china. Have fun with it!

You have to serve a meal or VERY heavy appetizers if it's during a meal time, it's not an option to not feed people if you host it during breakfast, lunch or dinner time. But I think drinks & snacks are totally fine if it's 10-12, 2-4, or 7-9 so people know to eat prior or after.

    I agree with Yam.

Or check into The Restaurant Store if you have one local to you. Anyone can go in there to buy things and they have all sorts of supplies. My mom got tablecloths from there for my bridal shower.
