Catering options

Suzanne, on March 21, 2022 at 2:20 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 11
So I just learned about various catering options. There is the self-serve buffet, the buffet with servers, or sit down with servers. What are you going to do for your reception?

We got married Saturday and had a buffet with servers. It made the buffet process go quickly and smoothly. I definitely preferred it, although I didn’t go through myself because someone brought us our food.

We're having double buffet lines with servers. It will make the buffet process super quick and seamless.

We are having a plated dinner (sit down), but most weddings I’ve attended had a buffet with servers.

I haven’t officially decided yet but we’re leaning toward a plated meal that way everyone has to eat at the same time and we and our wedding party will be able to eat.

Just to throw another option in there, we’re doing family style at each table. It felt like a good medium between plated and buffet.

Hi Liz! I know this must be a silly question, but what is family style?

Like a family style meal where dishes are put on the table with multiple servings and everyone serves themselves the amount they want of each dish. It felt a little more cozy than plated but doesn’t involve the long buffet line.

Ok! Thank you for explaining that! Kind of like Thanksgiving ha. Yeah! That’s also not a bad idea!

We're doing a plated dinner. Our reception space would have the guests going to an upper level for a buffet and then walking down stairs carrying a full plate of food, so plated seemed like a way better choice.

We’re going plated. The only weddings I’ve ever been to with a buffet, the food ran out before the last few tables got there. I suppose having servers would help with that?
We also looked and the prices weren’t going to be that far off with plated.

Most common in my circle is buffet with servers - it helps limit the problem Heather mentioned of food running out before everyone gets through.

We're doing plated, but only because we'll be at a restaurant. I was planning on doing food stations with servers when we were planning a bigger wedding.
