Catering Opinions

Allison, on January 26, 2020 at 9:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

We went to a bridal show today & had a restaurant catering vendor tell us that whether we chose them or not, using catering from a restaurant is far better than an actual catering company. Can anyone provide insight on this? Food is not the top of our priority list. We care that our guests eat of course, but do not mind if it's not a meal to rave over. We plan on doing stations or a buffet.

Idk about that - sounds a little spinny. Our caterer has phenomenal food. We went to a tasting, and pretty much everything was killer and better than a lot of restaurant food I've had.

I've had both before. I do remember having catering from Top Golf. Their food is usually beyond amazing! Their catering service was awful though. I really do believe that this all depends on the restaurant and how much effort they put into a wedding. Any catering service can be great or awful!

I've heard from a price perspective, that is true. But we needed a catering company that could cook partially on site, provide linens & china, and provide staff. We also wanted them familiar with our venue. A restaurant couldn't do that for us.

Is that restaurant one of few restaurants that also cater in the area? Because yeah, that's a spin.

We're going thru a grocery store chain. They do a ton of weddings and I've never had a bad experience with them.

Also, bridal shows are what my personal hell looks like. I'm pretty sure the vendors there just try to shame you into spending money.

I think it genuinely depends on your area/ on the restaurant. The good thing about catering with a restaurant is they can often provide better prices because they aren't relying on always having weddings to cater. They have the restaurant to provide profit when times are slow. It honestly depends on the general food service availability in your area. I live in a large metropolis/ hospitality heavy city where catering at a restaurant typically will save you money. It really depends.

They are definitely trying to sell their service is all! I'm sure their food is delicious, but unless they have gone head to head price and quality wise with every in house caterer near your venue, they are just trying to stand out and get a booking! Go with your instincts! Smiley smile
