Catering on a budget in DFW

Emilie, on November 5, 2016 at 12:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi there, my fiancé and I have been struggling to find an inexpensive caterer in the Fort Worth, TX area. We are expecting around 100 guests and would like to keep it under 2,000. We don't have a specific type of food in mind but we would like it to be buffet style and serve hor's d'oeuvres during cocktail hour. We have alcohol already so that doesn't need to be included. We have also been throwing around the idea of a food truck instead but I don't know much about that.

Props for trying to find a caterer. At $2000 for 100 people, that's about $20 pp. if that includes alcohol I would say it's too low, you may be able to find some BBQ or Italian options. Try local restaurants or even places like Olive Garden cater.

$2,000 for 100 people seems very unrealistic especially in the DFW area. That comes out to $20 per person. Look into BBQ or Italian as they are the most cost effective. You may need to increase your budget or cut your guest list if you're set on 2,000.

That's really low, I suggest you cut your guest list.

I recommend checking out a place like Olive Garden or BBQ! I work in Catering with my family in DFW and $20 per person for dinner and apps, including attendants to serve, wouldn't be doable for us.

Without even needing to read any comments, past or future, I can tell you what your'e going to hear.

    1. That's not a big enough budget

    2. Cut your guest list

    3. Look for BBQ

    4. Do a cash bar/dry wedding/potluck (all shitty suggestions)

So you're left with cutting the list or finding more money.

Oooo. I think $20 pp sounds low. I am not in the Fort Worth area but the best price I have found is $75 pp which includes a cocktail hour. I think a BBQ option might be the least expensive. Shop around a bit.

Would the $2000 include alcohol? That amount of money for 100 people is teetering into the unrealistic side.

Barbecue! We had a BBQ food truck, it was amazing. Good luck on your search, that was def my least favorite part of planning!!

You simply need to contact a bunch of places and get quotes. My catering was 1900 in Oklahoma for 60 people and that was with a discount.
