Catering Consultation- Need Help Please!

Cayley, on July 6, 2017 at 7:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

FH and I have a consultation with a potential caterer and they have offered to allow us to have a tasting during the consultation. We're pretty excited, as this will be our first big step in booking a caterer. My question is: the lady we will be meeting with has given us the oppprtunity to choose what we try without giving us any options besides their entire menu. Obviously, we aren't going to say their entire menu. How many items/dishes would be appropriate for us to select for this tasting? Which items did you feel were most important to try before you booked your caterer? We appreciate your help in advance!

Why not just pick what you're considering using for the wedding and taste that stuff?

Take a look at all their options and narrow down what they offer that is something you would actually want to eat/serve. You wouldnt want to try something you aren't going to actually end up ordering on your menu for the day of. So eliminate all things you wont eat first whether due to preference or dietary restrictions (if you have any) and create a list of things that both sound good and would be options that would actually end up on your menu

@FutureMrsR they offer a customizable menu and also a traditional wedding buffet, both of these options come with multiple choices and we want to have the yummiest options. Maybe for example, we choose the roasted turkey breast but had we tasted the bbq, we would have chosen it.

I agree with PP - narrow it done by things that won't be able to be consumed (allergies or something) or what doesn't sound good. Maybe there are 2 chicken options, taste which one sounds better overall. When FH and I had our tasting that's what we did. We knew we wanted beef and chicken so we chose to taste those options. We knew we didn't want certain veggies so we nixed those. We also knew we should have a vegetarian option, but could also be an option as a heartier side so we added a pasta to taste. Talk through everything outloud, that'll help!

Is there a certain number of options that are acceptable to ask to try? Like "we went and tried 5 items"? I just don't want to seem too crazy by giving too many options.

You should contact the caterer you're having the consultation with and ask them what the restrictions or parameters are for their tasting services first. That way you have a clear idea of what they're offering or what restrictions they may have (five items total, three items from each category ETC)
