Catering Confusion

Ewa, on February 22, 2021 at 11:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello ladies!

My fiancé and I are getting married this June, and we are doing things a little differently than we expected because of COVID. It will be at his parents home, where they have a lot of outdoor space and we will keep up with COVID regulations (not sure what it will look like by then). We decided to split up the groups to make them much smaller, so the celebration will be occurring over multiple weekends.

Since this is not going to be a typical reception, we weren't sure what kinds of food will be okay to serve, since we aren't planning on having a formal sit down meal. Our intent is to have it relaxed and casual, and to just be with those we love to celebrate our union.

We had some people suggest just getting simple catering from a barbeque place, chipotle, or sandwich shops. But I just wanted to reach out here and see what others thought about this!

Thank you in advance!!

We're estimating between 15-20 each weekend (2 weekends in total)

You could easily cater from a local restaurant in that scenario. Pretty much every restaurant now does take out, so you should be easily able to work something out.

I would do restaurant catering - different food every weekend would be fun!

I’d do restaurant catering—Chipotle does work great for this? Are you planning on hiring servers?

Casual receptions with picnic, barbecue, clambake, whatever, are fine for casual settings. Go ahead. When people grouse about a food truck for clam cakes or tacos, they usually are complaining because as guests they were asked to dress formally, and the couple has 2 photographers and a videographer following them all day, bride is wearing a $5K dress , and then they skimp on everything for guest food, and do a cash bar. But several small events to see all the people you want, SAFELY, with casual food and drink in a yard, is great.

While I think it would be great to have a local restaurant cater, my concern would be how you plan on having the food served. Unless you plan on having servers, people might not be comfortable getting their own food.

If you let guests choose between two meals you could order those specifically and the restaurants would have them in to/go ready to eat containers.

So like, a beef and chicken entree you've got 8 of one and 12 of the other. May not be super classy, but it would work.
