Catering Alternatives? or Affordable Catering in Boston?

Trish, on December 7, 2014 at 8:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hi! I am interested in hearing about any alternatives to catering that people have thought about. We are having a 130 person wedding at a venue that is pretty expensive on it's own (and pretty bare-bones). Our wedding is in October and we are open to being creative and quirky. Any creative ideas? Or, any Boston brides out there with a tasty, yet affordable caterer? Thanks!

I'm in NH. We're doing brick oven pizza from a vendor who has a mobile oven. If you're interested in having a more casual affair, you could consider something like that.

I am in Western Mass and I am using Myers Caterering Company. There food is great and the prices are good as well. Packages start at 25. For 39 a person we are getting glassware, buffet, and apps for the cocktail hour.

I'm not sure how much it would be, but I know there's a bunch of food trucks in Boston. Might be worth looking into if that would go with your vision.

In Chicago - doing a Taste of Chicago style dinner. Bringing it all in myself and having staff at the venue (I know them) put it all out.

I'm in southern New Hampshire and we decided on Chill Catering's barbecue menu. It was very affordable compared to other options and the food is delicious!

Where are you getting married? We are.getting married in October in the north shore, 10-15 miles from Boston. But at an historical estate mansion where, we feel, are limited to style of food, plus this venue only allows us to choose between their 7 caterers. One had an amazing bbq package that made me wish I was getting married outdoors in a tent in some beautiful field in the summer time. We went with a caterer who did creative dishes a little on the upscale side but not too upscale.

My sister was married in August and used American BBQ out of Beverly. She fed 200 people for about $3000, and the food was great. She also had the Ipswich Ale company tap mobile come and provide 4 different types of beers and a variety of bottles of soda for about $600. As far as I know she had no complaints Smiley smile

Have you checked out Blue Ribbon BBQ? They have great reviews and extremely good prices!

Great ideas and advice all; thank you! We are getting married at Elm Bank in Wellesley; they also had a list of caterers, but they all seem to be really pricey. They give the option of choosing someone off the list, but you have to pay a fee. I'm hoping to find a cheaper option where the fee doesn't matter so much.

Boston Market may be an alternative for inexpensive catering.

Sorry to try to revive a dead thread, but Trish, Did you ever decide on a caterer? We are on a strict budget and I'm looking to see where other people outside Boston landed on this subject.
