Caterers not responding...???

Marlene, on August 17, 2018 at 10:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Me and my fiance have found a venue that we really love, and fits well with our Sailor moon theme wedding. However there is no in house catering, so we have to hire outside catering.....
I have literally, messaged and called a good 15 caterers, and three have gotten back to me,( but offer no cake, some out of price range...), another two gave me a quick response, and dropped off.... (who offer cake)
And honestly, if its hard to find a caterer what if its impossible to get a wedding cake?! Has anyone experience this?? Is it just where I live? Like WHAT GIVES!!? It's driving me MAD! lol...

Don't worry about a cake. You can get that at any bakery, even Sam's, Costco and grocery stores.

It would be nice if they promptly responded, but this is their busy time of year and they've spent Wednesday, Thursday and today preparing food for this weekend's weddings.

Caterers have been very difficult for me to get in touch with also. The few places we did tastings at, I actually had to remind them to send me their quotes! I’ve almost decided to just go with a restaurant catering service because I’ve been so put off by local caterers. I prefer to support local but if communication is this bad now, I’m afraid what it would be like once they actually have my $$ 😒

Yea, you can do the cake through a bakery. If they don't respond skip them and try again. From my experience, if the communication is off in the beginning its a HUGE red flag. Some interested and committed with get back to you within a reasonable time frame. Have you used weddingwire and the knot for catering quotes? How about thumbtack? These are useful sources for getting multiple quotes. Local restaurants are also good ideas. Are you able to see what caterers have used that venue before? Or also, i'm planning a work event and i used yelp to search some in my local area. Sometimes using their "contact" page sucks. I always try to find their specific email address.

Oh also! are u on facebook groups for your local area? Try asking for recommendations. I've had good experience with that as well.

Yes so frustrating! and makes me not want to do business with them! I had the same problem then started looking on facebook group pages and asking questions and found the sweetest couple who just started their catering business, food is amazing, under budget, and service is outstanding!

Find people who want your business instead of those who apparently already have enough!

A lot of caterers won't make your cake. Baking and other cooking are just too different for most places to do both well. I would circle back to one of the responsive caterers who don't do cake. I would much rather have to get the cake from another vendor over having a caterer that is unresponsive!

I feel like there to many hands in the cookie jars... I am trying not to have so many vendors since I don't have a wedding planner to put it all together, you know? I need DJ, Photographer, Plus Video person, etc etc.... I am trying to minimum having so many vendors....I thought I could with a cake....

I have two vendors that do not do cake, and we have appointments with... but if its easy to get a cake then whatever.... lol.
