Caterers making food off-site

Jennifer, on September 17, 2020 at 6:40 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Hi all

Does anyone have experience with a caterer that makes their food off-site and brings to the venue? We are looking at a caterer who does stations (not plated entrees) so all food is pre-made and they bring it to the venue and assemble. However, the caterer is based an hour away. They have done weddings at our venue before so they assured us it wasn't a problem but we are a little concerned about the quality of the food it they have to travel that far to the venue. Has anyone had a similar experience and can you let me know how it went?

Our caterer made food off site and we also served stations, however, our venue was maybe 30-40 minutes from their kitchen. We had no issues with food quality and honestly this never even crossed my mind. Unless you’re getting married at a hotel or banquet hall, in my area at least, most venues don’t have full service kitchens.

My caterer also prepared off site, but they are located only a mile from my venue. Everyone kept talking about how good our food was. So it was fine.

Most caterers make things at least partially off site because it makes more sense to cook/prep things in a space that they're familiar with and know everything works. I'm kind of surprised that they're willing to travel an hour, but if they've done it before, I don't think you have to worry too much about it.

Its very common for a caterer to pre-make the food for events. Very rarely would they have a full kitchen at a venue unless it is their own venue and even if there was a full kitchen they would have to bring way too many supplies to cook everything onsite. If they have worked with this venue before then trust them. It will all be fine and they will ensure that they keep everything at the appropriate temps.
