Caterer Not Responding

Futuremrsn, on June 15, 2020 at 9:15 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
Hey Ladies!

So I’ve recently posted in the forums about my October wedding still being on track, but now I need advice on communication with my caterer. We’ve always kept in contact through email, but as of recent I have not heard back from them. About a month ago I emailed the woman I’ve been corresponding with and asked her about adding a third option to our menu, a steak option. She promptly emailed back saying that was no problem, but would be an extra $8 per person for three entrees. I wasn’t clear on her response, if that would be an extra $8 per guest overall, or $8 per guest who choose steak as their dinner option. So I emailed her back asking, also including that we’d like to make a decision soon because I want to send my invites and rsvps next month. I heard nothing for a week, so I emailed again. It’s been almost two weeks and she has yet to respond. At this point, do I attempt to call her? Should I wait a little longer?

I always wait about 10-days and if you still haven't had a response the follow up with a phone call. Keeping in mind, depending on where you are, they could just be reopening and getting things back on track.

I would follow up with her again, but your wedding is still far enough away that your invitations don't need to go out yet. Normally invites don't go out until 8-6 weeks prior to the wedding.

I would definitely call. I’ve heard stories where places change hands with coordinators and couples aren’t necessarily notified.

I agree with calling, but based on the venues daughter got estimates from I think it is fairly standard practice when offering multiple entree selections that you are charged the cost of the most expensive entree for all guests. So if steak is $8 more than your next most expensive option, your price pp will be at the "steak rate" regardless of what people actually order.

They’ve been open for micro weddings for a few weeks now, and have been hosting small farmer’s market events. I could understand if they were busy, but even a quick email isn’t too much to ask I don’t think :/

True, but we are early October and need final guest count by Sept 1, and are sending invites all over the country so we want to ensure that our guests have time to receive the invites, make a decision, and send them back with enough time

I would just worry that your guests aren't going to know that far in advance if they will be able to attend. There is so much going on in the world that their rsvp could very easily change between now and your wedding especially if there is a second wave like they are predicting.

To you, to me... it's not a lot to do to acknowledge an email and yes, it's the right thing to do. But again, you have no idea what's happening there. Be patient. I had to wait 3 months for our venue / resort to reopen and even when they did - it was still skeleton staff and still had to wait another week for an emailed response.

I get it, it's hard to be patient and we want it to be all about us the wedding party, but we also have to remember there are lot more people out there that are probably in the same / similar boat you're in.
