Caterer headaches!

Kelly, on July 3, 2019 at 10:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 3
More of a vent really.

My venue has mandatory caterers, you can pick from about five of them. A friend of mine used the same venue and reccomended the caterer she used because they were best at handling a severe food allergy for her brother (because I'm allergic too).
But it is weeks, 2-3 between contact with that caterer. I didn't expect a quick response as I know they are popular but weeks to get information? That's odd to me.
And the other caterers have these questionairres that ask all kinds of things like what's the worst event you've been ect. It feels like an interrogation just to get a ballpark price out of them! If they asked my theme and budget I'd understand but it's just strange questions!
I'm not worried as my date isn't until October of 2020 but because I have limited options of caterers I wanted to choose one sooner rather than later and this seems super annoying for a simple price inquiry.

That's frustrating. Can't speak for them but I was thinking maybe they don't answer straight away because your day is more than a year out. Doesn't make it right or professional but some vendors are just like that. Sucks in a way that you obligated to use 5 of the venue's caterers.. what you are experiencing would stress me out and make me want to look elsewhere.

I did suspect it was because I was more than a year out but all the other vendors were very upfront with that so it seems out of place.
I have considered contacting the venue and asking them if their caterers always have long lead times?

It's annoying but probably not personal. I don't think that is a bad idea. You may end up talking to someone there who can check in with the caterer too. Not sure how you contacted the caterer originally but messages going into spam boxes happen a lot.
