Catching a cold today, wedding on Saturday! Help!

Emily, on December 19, 2019 at 3:22 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

I'm so glad this isn't my own wedding but I'm a bridesmaid for a wedding on Saturday and I am coming down with a cold that began this morning. I've been popping Zicam medicated fruit drops all day, but know I'm going to need some actual medication to get me better by Saturday morning (imagine how awfully long that day would be if I were super sick). What were your emergency remedies when this happened right before your wedding?

I would take some emergen-c and stock up on Tylenol cold and sinus. I had a cold on my wedding day and I was so busy I just kind of forgot.

Theraflu multi symptom, a humidifier, lots of hot lemon and honey tea, emergen-c, and mucinex max strength are all my go to's for cold symptoms before a big event. Also LOTS of water and rest as much as possible.

I'm HYPER sensitive about getting sick so at the sign of any sickness for me or my husband, we:

    - Wash all our bedroom sheets & bathroom towels on hot.

    - Clean our bathroom & kitchen with a bleach-based cleaner.

    - Disinfect our cell phones & change our toothbrush heads & reusable water bottles.

    - Take EmergenC (or any similar vitamin C/zinc/etc. medication)

    - Start pounding water. We each have a reusable water bottle so we make an effort to drink 5-8 bottles a day if we feel sick.

    - Stop by the store to buy fresh fruits & veggies, and snack on those or eat them with dinner.

If that doesn't improve (or really help) in 24 hours, we go to Urgent Care for anti-virals or antibiotics. If it turns out to be more of a cold (so no medication prescribed), we go to our local medspa and get a vitamin IV specifically for sickness.

Yes, I know it sounds neurotic for sure. We just both HATE being sick and it seems like when we get sick, it's never just a cold and always ends up being the flu or bronchitis or something like that. To be fair, we both get sick about once a year (sometimes not at all) so it probably works.

I'm all for the Zicam you're already doing, on a once-every-three-hours basis. That stuff was an absolute lifesaver for me in college where the close quarters caused everyone to be sick all the time--plus rest and water! Good luck!

I swear it worked wonders for my fiance - he started in the morning and his cold was GONE by night. But it feels like it's doing nothing for me today!! Ugh Smiley sad

A vitamin IV sounds AMAZING. I wish I had time! Or knew where to find them OR how much they cost!

Haha! Yeah we are lucky and the local medical spa I go to for facials/etc. does them so it's 5 minutes from our house and they will stay open until 8 PM if you have an appointment so we can go after work. I think if you search "vitamin IV" or "IV bar" it will show ones near you if there are any. The "immune booster" one I do is $165 but I've seen them for anywhere from $100-$200 depending on what it is. I think a normal hydration drip is around $50 usually and just quick vitamin injections are around $30. That's just what it is for us (we are between Boulder and Denver in Colorado).

I started coming down with something on Monday. My 2 co workers I share a room with got the flu and were bed ridden for 2-3 days. They are just now back in the office running at 80%.

I just took vitamin C twice a day, drank lots of water. I went home early on Tuesday to sleep it all off. Hot showers cause for some reason my extremities were cold. I'm feeling a lot better today. I'm still drinking vitamin c, and eating tons of fruit.

Rest rest rest! Try elderberry syrup; supposedly decreases length and severity of illness. You can get it at cvs, Walgreens etc
