When you go to a wedding how much cash is normal to give? I'm attending a cousins wedding and I'm wondering how much I should give....any of you ladies who already had your wedding, what did you receive? This is my first wedding lol

You're supposed to try and cover your plate, but I would vary it from there depending on how close I am to the couple.

I don't think the "cover your plate" idea is a rule. Gift what you can comfortably afford. I usually gift $200 for DH and myself, more or less depending on relationship to the couple.

We got married last week and received almost all cash gifts, anywhere from $15 to $1,000. Majority were $50 or $100.

Eta...we had more than one person just give a card. We were just happy they attended and celebrated with us!

@Ryan P. Sheesh, I would have missed out on so many dear friends' special occasions if I had chosen not to attend because I couldn't give a $100+ gift. I live in the Silicon Valley, where rent is obscene, and I'm so glad that I didn't have friends who thought I didn't deserve to celebrate with them because my rent was eating 70% of my income.

Similarly, one of my dearest friends is having a turbulent time financially right now and I'll be damn honored if she can take time out of her schedule to celebrate with us. I'd rather she not stretch her budget to get us a gift, just being there will be more than enough.

Yeah, Ryan that was so so rude.

I think you give what you want. I feel like gifts get confusing on weddings, like, a gift is a gift. It isn't required. It isn't necessary. It is from the heart; give what you can.

I usually give $100, unless it's family I'm very close to... then I go up to $200-$250.
