Dedicated November 2020

Cash only

Chelsea, on June 12, 2020 at 10:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 14
So my venue accepts cash only, and if we bring money orders they will charge 5% extra. I recently went to drop off cash payment and I got my receipt. I didn’t look at the receipt until I got home with my family which was my mistake because I was rushing out of there to meet my family back home. Returned home and my parents pointed out that the remaining balance had extra money added! And this wasn’t like extra $10 $20 added, this was a few $100’s added! I’m the type of person that keeps receipts and make documentation of literally everything lol. And me and my family just realized it was weird that they take cash only, more money was added to remaining balance, 5% extra charges on money orders which is basically cash, and we also paid half deposit with card. It’s all starting not to seem normal to me. What does everyone else think?

This doesn't seem right to me either, starting with they only accept cash...

That would definitely raise some major red flags for me. I would go into the venue with all of your receipts and your contract and ask them flat out why they were charging you extra.

Agree with this. The whole thing seems sketchy. Have you read Facebook and Google reviews for your venue?

I agree with pp to look at your contract and see what the payment section says

That definitely doesn’t seem right. Ask them why the charges were added. Do you have your initial contract? Our venue tried to pull crap like this too. Our contract also had logistical things listed in it, I’d ask for a “modification” like an update to the processional order or to add that we’re bringing our own champagne glasses or something, and they’d send it back trying to sneak in another $50 for the sound equipment (that we were initially told was included), or $2000 for dessert trays we didn’t ask for 🙄😒

The only accepting cash thing is extremely weird, especially since venues deal with large amounts of money. Do they have reviews online? Try to see if its happened to anyone else but they may need to be reported

Lots of red flags here and this seems sketchy. What kind of wedding venue accepts cash only? I'd do some investigating if I were you. Best of luck

That seems super sketchy. Have you read reviews for this venue and if so were they in a reliable site like WeddingWire or The Knot? I've never heard of a venue only accepting cash.

That's sketch as hell, especially with the receipt shorting you! I understand some business are cash to avoid taxes but they dont charge that much for a money order, at most 3%. Is it in your contract that they are cash only? Did you call past customers that didnt love them? I would bring up the difference, and if they dont fix it, get your money and switch venues.

Yeah that’s sketchy. My venue contract said 3% discount if paid with cash. But my wedding planner specifically told me that everything needs to be paid for by Credit Card. Just in case.

My dj and planner charge a 3.5 fee for credit card because that's half the fee for the credit card fee they have to pay. But there is no fee to pay via venmo.

I don't know why they'd charge a fee for cashier's check. Do they take or charge a fee for regular checks?

Did you pay with actual cash or use a debit card?
I agree this is a bit sketch. I think they may be trying to avoid taxes.

Agreed with everyone else here but on top of going to speak with them in person, reach out to them via email stating your concerns and ask them to explain themselves so you have a paper trail in case you need to go to court later

Ok so I’ve just been informed they charge a 3% fee for card. And they also told me they prefer cash. I just read over my contract and I don’t see anything about “cash only” on my contract.

I agree with others that something is wrong, Look over your contract and all your receipts. The last receipt should have the balance and then minus the new payment. When I was paying my vendor we paid with cash and debit payment. And there was an error on one of the receipts when my husband went to make a payment, and I had to pull out all of my receipts and double check.

It will all work out .
