I agree, this is what we did. open beer wine and champagne. if they wanted liquor then it needed to be purchased.

We're having less than 40 ppl most likely and we'll be at a private room in a restaurant. We figure we'd do a few bottles of wine and let guests order whatever drinks they want and we'll foot the bill. I don't have big drinkers in my family but I'm not so sure about his.

I think it's personal preference and it depends on your budget. There is nothing wrong with doing a cash bar and I've been to many weddings where they had one. We simply do not want to do a cash bar. My FH and I are went into planning our wedding knowing we were doing a full open bar. We are supplying the alcohol ourselves and that is saving us some money b/c we are using total wine and they give discounts when you buy in bulk.

I personally don't care as long as I'm notified beforehand so I can bring cash!

I'm also not much of a drinker though so it doesn't affect me much.

That is what I am always saying lol. I agree that people are there to celebrate you and if alcohol is going to be the reason you do not come... bye Felicia. As I am planning a reception I am finding that I may omit the alcohol. I plan on having a day wedding but unless I can bring some beer and wine and not be charged a corking fee or something then my friends will have to pay for forego for a few hours. I like that a PP that cash bar is the norm. Whenever I have gone to a wedding with a cash bar I did not think twice about but I paid to have a drink. Everyone has a different perspective but ultimately people should be happy to attend the ceremony and that is it.

    I vote yes.

I would prefer the option to pay for the drink I want, rather than no drink at all. I'm not a huge drinker, but when I do, I prefer liquor. Most people don't do liquor at weddings due to cost, but I would love the option personally. Smiley smile

I've been to all types of the bars at weddings. The only thing I advise is that if you have a cash bar, you make it abundantly clear on everything! So on your invites put "reception and cash bar to follow" so guests know to bring cash.

We went to a wedding recently where the save the date said "{Bride and Groom} Are Having an Open Bar...And a Wedding Too." So all of us assumed it was an open bar, and the invitation did not say anything about it. When we arrived, it was cash bar, and only one person in our group had cash. He ended up buying some drinks and we all had to find an ATM after to pay him back.

Do what you can afford. I am providing an open bar at my wedding, and as a guest I obviously prefer an open bar, but I understand that it is not something everyone can do. Maybe a beer and wine bar would be the best compromise? If not, a cash bar is totally fine, just remember to make sure guests know to bring cash!

I’m surprised so many people would be offended by a cash bar, I guess it depends on where you’re from? Almost all of our friends weddings have been cash bars, or the ones that had an open bar it was for cocktail hour only. An open bar is certainly a pleasant surprise but I never attend a wedding and expect there to be an open bar 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m surprised as well. I’m all for a cash bar.
