Cash bar reality check

FutureMarineWifexo, on April 2, 2016 at 4:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 109

For all of those still stuck on doing a cash bar... Go to a party or a wedding as a guest with a cash bar and see how you feel. Just went to my cousins sweet 16 last night and my notoriously cheap aunt had a cash bar. It shouldn't have been a shock, but it was. Having to walk back to my purse to get a card to put on file because I had no cash was uncomfortable and annoying. Sorry.. Just still aggravated about it today.

My mom still talks about the cash bar wedding she went to 30 years ago. It's something that people will always talk about.

My cousin had a cash bar 7 years ago at her wedding. It still comes up.

It's annoying. Or wandering around trying to find an ATM because you have no cash. Lots of people don't carry cash as much any more. I usually only have $40 max.

Well, you were at a teenager's birthday party. It's not quite the same thing as a wedding.

So true. If people have to pay for drinks, you could wear a diamond-encrusted ballgown, ride down the aisle on a real live unicorn, and have the red hot chili peppers play at the reception. All anyone would report about your wedding is "cash bar..."

I was about to ask why there was a bar at a 16th birthday party in the first place.

It's a 16th birthday... No need for a bar in the first place.

There was a bar because it was a banquet hall with more adults than minors lol.

ETA: maybe having one at a sweet 16 isn't that big of a deal but my point of how guests feel at cash bars is still valid

I was in a wedding at a country club that had a cash bar.. I honestly think the brides parents spent around 40k total and seriously?! No bar?! I had no wallet because it was left where we got ready so I was drinking punch all night when I was ready for a drink because of other bridesmaid drama. Then of course the best man decided to bring in a bottle of vodka for himself and got into a fight with the other groomsmen in front of a bunch of guests and oh my.. It was a total shit show

Moral of the story: I needed a drink damnit! Open bar at my wedding FOR sure and a bartender that actually pays attention to how much each person is drinking and will cut someone off if they're getting too wild

I can't imagine an open bar at a sweet 16 party. Not the same as a wedding.

Shanita, I would advise against both actions. Is beer and wine only not an option?

@Shanita, you can't be serious. You don't want to spend too much money on guests because some guests might not even bring a present? What? That is a selfish line of thinking.
