cases of beer or keg?

Bonnie, on August 8, 2011 at 10:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

We are providing beer and wine for about 65 people. One keg from walmart will cost $140. Would this be more cost effective? I've seen large weddings buy cases instead because it wasn't always the best deal. Only about half of the guests will be the beer lovers and the other half probably have a couple glasses of wine. suggestions?

We recommend bottles because the leftovers can be taken home.

I want to do a keg... but my fiance thinks it's trashy... lol. So I guess we're going to end up doing bottles which might be best in the end as Kathy pointed out, you can bring the left overs home... or possibly sell any unopened cases back to the seller if they do buy backs.

Go for a keg, you can deck it out with fun wedding decorations or I'm sure there's some kind of way to hide the fact that it's a large metal keg. If you're inclined to do so you could always build a keg hiding space/box and find a way to attach the tap to something that looks more like it belongs in a bar rather than a frat party. Good luck.

We are doing bottles because I thought of kegs as out of place or for college partying. But if it works best for you to have kegs go with them but dress them up some kind of way or have them hidden.

We wanted a keg to put behind the bar, but the venue doesn't allow them. So bottles I guess. Probably going to do BL, Corona, and maybe some Youngs Winter Warmer.

Do you have a brewery nearby? I would think you can beat $140. I've always found them to be cheaper at the brewery. Ours where I live is $111 for Bud Light.

My venue only allows bottles. I wouldn't use a keg anyway though. Sometimes they are very tempermental, the tap might break, or the flow is super foamy.

We did kegs and it worked out great but there was alot of beer left over.. We could have gotten away with 2 half kegs which they have at Bevmo ... we may have run out but it would have been better than having left overs.. the Blue moon probably had 1/3 left and I'm not sure about the Bud only because my Dad took that one home with him after because he paid for it ... We drank part of the Blue Moon but because we don't have an extra refrigerator the rest went bad. I'd look into half kegs if you want more than one type of beer. There was a savings for us keg vs bottles even with the left overs

Well our venue is an open grass field owned by our neighbors and you can see the water from it. There is a great big tree where I am thinking our ceremony will take place and then have the reception festivities in the middle of the field. I really think going with the bottles and or cans will be better because I am only providing a certain amount of alcohol and if they choose to get more drunk when we leave they can feel free to go buy more. Speaking of the family members staying at our house when we leave of course. Otherwise we'll be spending our honeymoon budget on it and thats not gonna happen Smiley tongue

How many kegs would be needed for a wedding with 200 people ? We are doing a red and white wine and 2 signature drinks., but I have no idea how to judge this.. Any help?
