Carry a photo down the aisle?

Courtney, on January 23, 2016 at 4:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

My grandfather passed away about a year ago and I had always wanted him to walk me down the aisle. He was like a father to me. Now the time has come for me to get married and he is no longer with us. I had considered having him still "walk me down the aisle" by carrying a framed photo of him with me instead of a bouquet. I thought I would pass it off to my grandmother (his wife) or something like that. What are your thoughts on this idea, ladies? Is it silly to forgo the bouquet?

Mmm...I would talk about it with your grandmother. Depending on where she is in her grieving process this may be difficult for her.

What about a photo on your bouquet like this:

Yup, what Ali said. I'd find it a little uncomfortable for you to carry a photo in place of a bouquet, but I love the small charm photo on a bouquet.

Remember that the bouquet is also used for alllllll of your posed pictures. Do you want a picture of your grandfather in EVERY PHOTO you have? I agree with a small photo on the bouquet itself.

No. I love the charms, but carrying a photo down the aisle is too much.

I would think that it wouldn't be that difficult to take the frame off and on the bouquet for different pictures. I think what Ali suggested is perfect. Walking down with the frame might be a little strange for some people (especially guests who didn't know your grandfather).

    I'm with Jelee (as usual....)

It's too much. Yes, you CAN do anything you want, but your sorrow is not only yours; it belongs to other people there who came to celebrate your wedding.

You have almost three years to decide.

Even better than a simple charm on the bouquet, at one wedding, they bride had part of grandpa's favorite sweater sewn into the lining of her wedding dress. Discrete but personal.

I think it's up to you, but I can tell you that I've seen people snicker at the bride when she walks down the aisle carrying a picture.
