Card box/bin/whatever

Ali, on August 14, 2019 at 1:41 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16
So, we want to have a place where guests can put a card or money where other guests won't take off with it. (We have to invite a couple people we dont trust. Okay more like I dont trust them. 1 is in the wedding party and cant do wrong but I've caught this person red handed. Another is the child of the aforementioned thief who is also a compulsive liar.) We dont want to make it obvious that we dont trust people, fh knows how I feel and told me to figure something out if I'm that worried about it. Being that we are asking exclusively for money (we have lived together for 7 years. We have everything we need/want, so money for honeymoon!) I need to make sure that nobody is being dishonest and hiring security for the card box is ludacris in my opinion. So, short of filling the bottom with concrete and making it a concrete box that's going to take a sledge to get into it, ideas???

Will you have a coordinator present the day-of? Perhaps if you let them know in advance so someone always has an eye on it? Or if someone is assigned to guestbook duty and it's on the same table, they could also keep watch. Sorry you're in this situation! 😕

We are doing this on the super cheap (less than 4000 for everything. Including the 2 week stay at the cabin for the honeymoon and less than 30 people) so no room for a planner. If we say something to anyone about keeping an eye on it, word will certainly get out because there are zero secrets among family.

Decorate it with actual bells? And don't forget a lock.

They make locked card boxes, seems like it may be a good idea to invest in one, and have a member of the bridal party or a parent keep an eye on it.

We had a run of the mill card box. No lock. We asked my FIL to take care of it and lock it in his car after the cocktail hour. It worked out just fine.

I bought a wooden crate and painted and decorated it how I wanted. I covered the top (the opened end) with a few layers of tulle and nailed it in. and then flipped it over. The guests have to put the cards through the slots and no one will take off with anything unless they take the whole box. Which I'm hoping wont happen but it it does people will notice.

We’re borrowing SiL’s, it’s heavy and has a lock. Will you have loud music at your wedding? You might not be able to hear if they grab it. Maybe you could set your guest table closer to your sweetheart table so you can keep an eye on it.
I had a conman uncle who wanted to come, luckily he can’t make it or I’d be worried too!

So I had a cardboard card box and it was on the guest sign in table which was manned by bridesmaids for the first hour to hour and a half before dinner started. Then the father in law took out the contents of the box and put it in a bag that was then guarded by our relatives at their tables the whole night because they never left their tables. Then at the end of the night when they left they just gave it back to us.

Get one with a lock and put bows and bells on it to make noise if it's moved. Put it inside the reception so you can keep an eye on it rather than by the guestbook that tends to be more out of sight.

I found a small birdcage at a Tagsale and painted it. It has a spot where cards can be dropped but your average Joe won't be able to open it

No loud music, just some background music that is appropriate for all ages. (We tend to prefer stuff that his religious family doesn't like and my niece will be there and my sister is one of those moms) so oldies, and censored newer music lol
