Card Box Opinions

Rosie, on April 30, 2022 at 8:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
Hi! We are an older couple (late 50s), and don't need anything as far as gifts are concerned. We will be combining the things from 2 houses. (We dont live togather). I have told the family that have asked me that we don't need anything, we just want everyone to come and spend time with us, and enjoy being together. We are not registering anywhere. We don't expect or want monetary gifts, which brings me to my question-should I still have a card box? I don't know if it will look out of place, since we told those who asked that we don't need gifts of any kind. Please tell me what you think-card box or no card box? I just don't want to look like I said one thing, but planned for another. Thank you in advance ☺

I would still do a cardbox. Even if there is no money inside, people tend to bring a card giving well wishes to the new couple, and you want a place they can put them. Also, as a guest, I would never go to a wedding without a monetary gift, regardless of the couple's age or request for no gifts.

Agreed. I think people will, at the very least, bring you a card.

I’m in the same boat, not registered etc. no one has asked yet because we haven’t sent out invitations but we do not need gifts. I know people will bring cards so I do need to find a cute card box. I may put on the outside “Best Wishes for the Mr. & Mrs.” in fact I’m going to look on Etsy now!

I would still do a card box. Otherwise you will have someone needing to hold or carry them all night. Regardless if you register or not, it’s customary in many social circles to give a card anyway to be polite. Some social circles see no registry as giving cash only in a card so those will need to have some container on display to kept in. Go to a local Joann or Michaels and get a decor item that you like that can be used as one.

Thanks, Michelle! I saw one at Marshall's, and one at Hobby Lobby, that I like. I will go back to get one of those. Thank you for the reply 😊

Card box is good maybe should send out a wedding announcement on that to just give card envelopes only as a wedding gift.

If people are asking, then they'll probably still bring something as a gift, regardless of what they're told. I like the idea of using a décor item as a card box! Also, make sure there's enough room for lots of cards in the event that happens. I've been to a few weddings where the box isn't slotted right and only a few cards fit or the first few blocked the cards from falling to the bottom of the box. Everyone just gave up and tossed the cards all over the table.
