Card box open or closed?

Meghan, on September 4, 2017 at 2:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

So I have a card box with a slit on the top to put cards into. My question is shall I leave it shut or open it up for people to put cards into? I have a cute cards banner I'm hanging onto the box but I'm stuck on leaving it open or shut.

I've read some stories about people stealing the cards so that's what makes me nervous..I trust all my guests but I do have some coming I don't know (plus ones)

My card box has a the top too and we are leaving it closed. I think the banner you have will indicate that that is where the cards go so there is no reason to leave it open.

I read about people stealing cards too - what is wrong with others?! We plan to have my MOH's husband bring the card box to his car and lock it up after the cocktail hour before the reception in case anyone gets any crazy ideas.

Based on the number of stolen cards threads I have read on here, I think closed is the best option.

Keep it close, we are! I've read too many horror stories.

I think it depends on where the card box will be and if you have staff/DOC watching it. At my venue the DOC will keep an eye on the card box and brings the cards to a safe at the venue throughout the night so I have no qualms about keeping it wide open. If you're anxious about it though, keeping it closed seems like a good option.

I have a picture and will show it once I get home! I would love to keep it open but I just don't think it's a great idea. Just saw a cute Pinterest idea with it left open and wanted to see what everyone thought Smiley smile

Closed. Absolutely. In fact, I'm a proponent of going the birdcage/mailbox route right next to the sweetheart table route. If you're doing a cardbox...please, seal it up to the best of your ability. Yes, people steal...from anyone...including wedding couples.

I will be leaving mine open, we are not doing plus ones and it is a small, intimate wedding. That being said, the card box will be watched at all times and will be transported to the car at the start of dinner
