Card Box / "Donation box" Is this okay?

Alayna, on July 28, 2015 at 9:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

So I had this idea today to use one of my FH's saxophone (His Primary Instrument) cases as a card box. I was just going to do a banner that labeled the case as the place to put cards, but FH wants to put a piece of paper in the box that says:

"Donations Welcome, Requests Not Taken,

Street Band Performance @ TBD"

Will people get that it is the card box? Or does it seem like we are asking for money. Which we are definitely not (or not trying to)

Also there will be some sort of mid reception Band Performance I Promise.

And I apologize for the horrible picture of the case.

It sounds like you are asking for money. Just do the cards sign.

I think it's a super cool idea to use it as a card box but i would steer away from the donation idea!

Yea, just use a sign that says cards. If I saw something that said "donations" I wouldn't even know what to do with the card I brought.

Card box = yes! Other sign = I would definitely discourage it.

Its funny its cute, but depending on your crowd of people it may be taken as asking for money. I would steer clear of the donation, but really it depends on your crowd and if they would get it.v

That's what I was leaning towards but I don't want to crush all his ideas right off the bat. Hopefully he'll forget when it comes time to put out the case. Smiley winking

He has a few really good ideas, and some not so good.

I may just be an idiot but if I saw the donation sign, I wouldn't know if it was the correct place to put cards. You don't want your guests to be confused as to where to put your gifts!

I think the idea is great!! But I would also skip the sign and just write "Cards."

I agree with the other brides in that not putting the donation sign is would be best. While I think that it is a cute idea to use the instrument case, I would be concerned leaving all of the cards out in the open like that. I'm not sure what your venue is like, and perhaps you trust your guests, but you also have to worry about the venue staff having such open access to your cards.

My Venue is actually my place of work Smiley smile

So I have 100% faith in the man that will essentially be my DOC to monitor the situation, as he is one of my favorite people to work with and would be invited to the wedding if he didn't already offer to run it. His words right after I got engaged and was debating about having it there were "I throw a mean wedding"

I think FH's sign could work if you replaced the word "donations" with "cards." It's a cute idea.

I like the idea behind it, but "donations" sounds like you're asking for money. Maybe a sign that says "Will play 4 greetings" (or wishes or cards...)?

Yea I agree- love the idea of using it as a cardbox (since it's something unique to you guys) but no donation sign for sure.

Do people know that there will be a performance later? If not, then I'd just stick with "card box". I like KArin's idea too! Will play for cards since there will be a performance later.

We arn't planning on publishing a timeline to our guests besides the start and end times but we kinda want to hint towards it.

The other Idea would be to have the case in front of the band we will have playing as people enter our cocktail hour. FH would be in the group playing later though.
