Card box, do I really need one?

I'm wondering how absolutely necessary it is to have a card box at my reception. My wedding and reception are at the same venue. I'm not having a bridal shower due to too many out of town guests and not enough time to have one anyways. The venue is providing a gift table that will be VERY simply decorated. Would it be alright for guests to just leave the cards on the gift table? Since I'm not having a bridal shower, I'm wondering if I should get/make a card box. I want to keep within my "themes", I've hand crafted all the favors, ( treasure chests with gold foil wrapped chocolates), the centerpieces (large fish bowls with plastic gold sea fans, latex jelly fish, actual live fish and rocks and underwater LED lights), the ring box, (treasure chest) and the backdrop for the ceremony. Do I really need to add one more project? Has anyone not had one and regretted it? Has anyone had one and found it went unused? HELP!

We got a card box that holds 4 8x10 photos...and it spins! I can't wait to use it. Also, our venue has security cameras in the reception hall pointed right at the gift table. That'll help my stress and any possible anxiety. We both have great families and friends that would never take anything from us, but you never know.

You really should have a card box in order to make sure cards are not lost or stolen.

We are having a card box and we also asked our MOH and BM (my sister and his bff) if they would empty the card box periodically to lessen the possibility of people taking anything from it. But I would definitely say have a card box. If not you run the risk of people giving things to random members of your family and leaving/ losing them. I think a designated spot makes it easy for you and guests. The last thing I want is for people to be handing me cards and gifts all night. If you have a spot you and your guests can enjoy the night and you wont have to figure out where to place things on the fly all night.
