Can't get Marriage License (la county)? Help!

Kristyn, on January 22, 2021 at 5:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi ladies,

My fiancé and I are planning a micro wedding on February 27th and having our big ceremony/party in 2022. I just tried to make an appt online for our virtual marriage license appt and it is showing no appts available all year. The woman at the registrar office said "you have to just keep checking and something might open up". What the heck?! Has anyone else dealt with this. I'm in Los Angeles County. Thank you!

Hi! I’m in PA so not sure if the laws are different, but we got our marriage license in a small county and married in another. In PA at least, you can get a marriage license in any county within the state. Good luck ❤️❤️❤️

What Katie said. Check your state's requirements and then make your appointment in another county if that's allowed. But also, check every day for appointments in your county. I bet people cancel their appointments all the time so something probably will open up.

I’m in CA. I think you’re allowed to get the license in other counties. Just checked SD County—they have several openings through March

We got married in CA and got our marriage license in a different county. Just double check that LA county allows that first (should say so on their website). With Covid everything takes much longer and appointments fill up super fast

This post has made me very nervous about setting up our appointment. But I know that somewhere on the website for our county that the license is good for anywhere in California so you should be fine trying to make an appointment in another county as I think they are state specific not county specific.

My daughter lives in LA County but was able to make an appt and get her license in Orange County. Best wishes!

Since you can get a license in any county of CA, I’d head to OC and make an appointment with the county registrar. I believe they’re still doing appointments at Honda Center (which is SUPER easy). https://www.ocrecorder.com/services/marriage-services

Do it early! My license in Northern California was valid for 90 days, I would think that’s the same throughout the state!

LA County Clerk’s Office is a mess. You need to obtain a marriage license through a wedding chapel. Authorized notaries have marriage licenses available and can also preform civil ceremonies
