Cant find the dress

Fmv, on July 20, 2019 at 6:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
So i went my with my mom today for my first dress shop to look at some options, the shop was having a large sale.
I tried on about 20 dresses and none of them gave me that feeling everyone talks about.
One dress was gorgeous which i loved but it was 1,100- eventhough i told the consultant my budget was $700. So that was annoying.
Has anyone else had this problem with finding a dress and having that "the one" feeling?

I’ve been shopping twice and haven’t had that feeling. I liked a couple and the closest to loving one I was it was the same situation $2100 dress even though I told the consultant $700 max budget. I’m going to another boutique Wednesday, but I’m also in no hurry at this point since the wedding is over a year away still.
Did you at least find a silhouette, fabric, neckline, etc that you like to focus on going forward? Goof luck!

Hey there. Looks like your getting married a month before me! I wasnt super thrilled falling in love with a dress and then seeing the price tag, super disappointed.
I definitely like sleeves...but the more dresses i tried the more i like bits and pieces of each dresss..which made it even harder!

I wouldn’t get discouraged yet, you’ve only had one appointment. For most people, the first appointment helps them to narrow down what they do and don’t like, then future appointments are more about selecting a dress that fits those criteria.

I wouldn’t get discouraged, it can definitely take more than one time!
Some of the best advice I was given at a bridal shop is to choose 5-7 dresses each time you go shopping and leave it at that because if you do many more than that then it can be overwhelming and can cause all of the dresses to “look the same” in a way.

I would try to narrow down a silhouette first and focus on that and then try to find the perfect one.

I definitely understand the disappointment, I don’t understand why consultants do things like that! I’m sure some people will love the dress and say yes even though it’s over budget, but I think there are just as many (or more) who just can’t go over budget and it ruins the experience.

I’m positive we will both find the right dress, but I’m with you on liking certain parts of different dresses. At my last appointment I tried two extremely different dresses twice for comparison because I liked both. They had absolutely nothing in common- champagne, v-neck ball gown with a tulle skirt, and ivory, sweetheart, damasks fit and flare. My MOH thought I was insane (and probably the consultant)! I’ve stopped looking at dresses online because it confuses me more!

I think it's normal to need more than one time shopping. It's so overwhelming the first trip.

I went to 3 different shops before I found my dress! I tried on my dress, "the pink one" just for fun, and it happened to be my dress! You'll find one!

I’ve tried on probably 30 or more dresses and haven’t gotten “the feeling”. However, there has been a dress that I felt great in and that looked beautiful on me that I’ve purchased (it helps that it was on DEEP discount, so if something better comes along, I won’t have a ton of money lost). Don’t beat yourself up about not getting emotional; many brides don’t have that kind of reaction to a dress and even if you end up having it, it’s okay that it didn’t come with the first shopping experience. I’ve got one more appointment before I decide that the one I bought is the one I’ll wear, which will make it 6 separate shopping appointments.

Just try on a bunch of different shapes and fabrics for now and when you narrow down what you like vs dislike, then go for the bargain hunt. You don’t have to buy anything your first appointment, lots of brides want to try on different styles to get a feel for what looks good.

A tip. Once you find a couple dresses you really like(any price range), use one of those dress finder tools(every big site has one) and have it find similar dresses for you in your price range. Then you can go try on those dresses.

Yes and it's totally normal! I went to 3 bridal stores, the 3rd being Davids Bridal and I remember standing in a dress which was nice and okay and I heard a woman yell YES and I said to my consultant - That is how I want to feel! My 4th place was just a store I had no intention of purchasing from, it seemed a little too fancy and expensive but I went for the sake of everyone that was with me. It was almost closing time and I was at the end of my appt when my future DIL brought me a skirt & separate top and I tried it on for the hell of it and that was it! I had that feeling! It was over my budget but everyone chipped in and it then fell within my budget and now I'm just waiting for it to come in!
