Can't find a flower girl

Stephanie, on June 19, 2014 at 3:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I have picked all my attendants and ring bearer but still can't find a flower girl. I'd like to include my FH's sister in the wedding who will be 11 at the time but I don't like the idea of a junior bridesmaid because she wouldn't be able to attend any pre-wedding adult only (aka. alcohol provided) events such as the bachelorette party. I know her well and she would love to wear the pretty dress and she would be old enough to understand what she's doing. I know she's a little too old to be a flower girl but the only other little girl I know will be 1 at the time of the wedding. She'd be way too young to even walk down the aisle let alone compose herself. To make matters worse, my ring bearer is 3 so if I chose my FH's sister, it might look strange because they're so far apart in age. Help! Is it weird to have an 11 year old flower girl?

It's your wedding! Include who you want to include! I don't think it would be bad to make her a FG if you don't want to make her a Jr. BM.

My friend had her grandmothers sprinkle flowers, so in theory anyone can be a flower girl, woman or man.

Depends on her attitude, i think. I knew a 16-year-old once who was a flower girl and loved every minute of it. Then there are some 10-year-olds who think its babyish. Depends on the girl. my flower girl is 7 and she is positively thrilled

If you truly can't decide, you don't need a flower girl at all. You can always go with just a ring bearer. I'm not having either.

It is never to old to be in a wedding no matter what you job is. as far as the Jr bride part not being old enough to attend adult events, that is really just how you want it. Two of my BM are my daughters 13 and 16 they will be 14 and 17 at time of wedding and they won't be doing any adult stuff, but they don't seem to mind at all. you could have the 11 year old push the 1 year old in a stroller while she hold flowers. just an idea.

I didn't have either one. Worked out just fine. You are the Bride you set the rules. Good Luck

What if you had the 11 year old and the 1 year old both be FGs? The older girl can help the little ones down the aisle. Just a thought.

I have a friend who had a "flower teen" in her wedding party (a 14 year old taking the traditional role of "flower girl"). You could make FH's sister a "flower tween", perhaps? If you want to include her, you should, and use whatever title she is most comfortable with. I would advise not to use the 1 year old in the wedding party though. Toddlers can be extremely unpredictable in terms of behavior and temperament, and I'm guessing you don't want that kind of stress added to your wedding day.

I don't have a flower girl. My 3 year old nephew, instead of being a ring bearer, is going to carry a sign down.

I've been to a lot of weddings that didn't have a flower girl, ring bearer, or both. I wouldn't worry about it.
