Can't decide on wedding size.

Ashley, on July 1, 2015 at 3:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

My fh wants a small wedding with about 60 people, and I want a big wedding with 150 people, a nice dinner, dancing and everything. How did you ladies deal with this problem? He doesn't see a point in having a big wedding to invite a bunch of people we don't really care about.

What fits into your budget? This is a good time to practice compromising with each other Smiley smile

Lost our who you want there and see what you end up with. It's a good place to start. A lot of people unintentionally end up listing more people than they mean to do he could be surprised with how quickly the list adds up.

Between 10 and 15k. Our venue is only 1500 for the ceremony and reception.

Create a list for your family and his family alone, with that plus friends and such he'll realize it adds up quick. I want our number to be no more than 100 but it looks like it might be more...

You still have to keep in mind that you will most likely end up paying per person for catering, as well as alcohol, as well as more guests meaning more centerpieces, table linens, invitations, menus, etc. Tiny has a good suggestion. I was surprised at how quickly the guest list added up.

I agree. Start by creating a budget and creating a guest list. Chances are you will have more people on the list than you realized. Then cut the list down to fit into your budget. You might need to research catering and alcohol costs before you truly know what fits into the budget.

Where are you located? You may need to stay around or under 100 to fit a $15k budget.

I'm with him....why do you want a big wedding? For the sake of having a big wedding?

And here's a reality check; you probably can't do 150, including everything, for 15K.

Compromise? Have 100 people. Know that all who you invite won't come. Only invite people who you've spoke to the last few years. My FH wanted to invite his hairdresser that he's known since he was 4. That's when you know your wedding is getting too big

FH wanted 50, I wanted 150. We have a decent sized budget, but it would be stretched thin for 150 people. So we decided to invite 100 and treat them very well (open bar, great food). We are hoping 75 attend. This way we also get to spend quality time with the people flying in for the wedding.
