Can’t decide on a venue

My fiancé and I are having trouble deciding between two venues (venue 1 - first three photos)(venue 2 - last two photos). Both venues are extremely different. Venues in the location for our wedding are booked through 2020 so we are planning to have a 2 year engagement and get married in 2021. We might be moving to a new state in a year though and our parents all live about 4 hours away from both venues. The region is where we met, went to school, and got engaged, so it is very special to us.

Venue one is a vineyard but the ceremony and reception take place in a castle on the property. The castle is gorgeous but doesn’t give the vineyard views we have been hoping for for the ceremony and reception. Since the ceremony is on the rooftop you still get some vineyard views just not while sitting. This venue is all inclusive with a day of wedding planner, a team that helps plan before day of, bar packages with their wine and local beers, and a full service kitchen that will provide amazing catering. The venue is on a main road and easy to get to. It’s also close to lots of hotels at different price ranges. The venue is gorgeous and has great wine, but it’s a bit “extra” for us. Our guest list is at about 110 and they max out at 200 so there is ample space. In the unlikely event of rain this venue has indoor and outdoor options.
The second venue is a winery with gorgeous vineyard views. It maxes out at 100 people (they can do up to 110 if it’s a bit tight). They don’t do many weddings (a few a year) so they don’t have a wedding planner and don’t really provide much help in the process except for a list of recommended vendors. We would get a wedding planner for this venue to help us out though. They don’t have much indoor space so rain (rare during the time of year we want) would be tough. The road to the venue would be dangerous at night especially if people are drinking so we would need to shuttle people in and out. There are two houses on the property that can be rented for parents/family and the wedding party. This venue is very us but will be a lot more work to plan. It also might a bit small for our guest list if everyone shows up.
Both venues are pretty much equivalent in price so there isn’t much help for the decision there. We are really torn between the views we want and the ease of planning when we might be moving. We would really be happy at either. My fiancé likes the idea of not having to be stressed with planning but agrees that the views at the other venue are incredible. My parents like venue 2 with the views and his like venue 1 with the castle, guest safety for driving, and ease of planning. Help!

    Castle! Castle! Castle!

Seriously they both sound great. And the second option is gorgeous.

But taking the extra size for comfort, guest safety, and an indoor option in case of rain for a plan B make me lean toward the first option.

Honestly, based on the photos, I get how the first venue is kind of "extra," but to me the three HUGE advantages are: 1) it has a reasonable bad weather Plan B (even in CA, I think this is critical -- sure, you may not have rain, but what about wildfires [which we, unfortunately, are having WAY too frequently] -- I wouldn't pick a venue that doesn't have an indoor option); 2) they do weddings frequently and have dedicated staff to make sure everything runs smoothly (oh, my goodness, that is invaluable...); 3) it's more safe/convenient in terms of transportation and lodging. Personally, I'd go with one (even though I like the ambiance of 2 better). I worked closely with daughter for the 18 months she planned her wedding. The experience, help, and support of the venue's event coordinator was absolutely priceless. We had any question at all? She had the answer or could talk us through options in minutes. She and the venue staff made sure every single detail was covered and ran like clockwork at the rehearsal and day of, so we never had to think about a thing. We're in So Cal; 99% of the time, the weather here is absolutely PERFECT. But, for five days straight, prior to the wedding, we had record-breaking pouring rain -- like major flooding. Since the venue had an awesome Plan B, daughter never stressed about what the weather meant as far as any of her plans -- inside wasn't her first choice, but at least she knew everyone would be dry, warm, and well cared for. They totally lucked out and the rain stopped 48 hours before the wedding, and at ceremony time it was 75 degrees and gorgeous on the patio where they held the ceremony & cocktail hour. Finally, arranging shuttles to a more remote location requires a lot of coordination and planning on your part, and then the guests have to be willing to arrive & depart on your timetable, and they'll likely have less choice about accommodations. Having been through planning a wedding of a similar size and style, I'd go with one and not look back! Good luck! Smiley heart

This. Venue 1 looks gorgeous and sounds like it has a lot more positives going for it, especially if you will be out of state.

    I absolutely love venue 2

However it seems venue 1 has more perks. More space, backup if it does rain, etc
Don’t get me wrong, venue 1 is gorgeous though!

As beautiful as venue 2 is, I'd go with venue 1! Having more options, flexibility, and a coordinator on site is huge!

My FH and I chose our venue because it checked off everything we needed and more. No need to add extra stress to your planning and day!

I like the first venue for the indoor/outdoor option also it’s very beautiful. But if you decide to go with the second one keep in mind that if that if the true max for that venue is 100 people and you go over 100 the fire Marshall can and will shut your wedding down.

Thank you!! I hadn't thought about wildfires. I think we will go with the first venue because of everything it provides Smiley smile I shared your advice with my parents and I think it changed their minds and they are happy with how convenient venue one is
